The Market I've used in the past (I don't use it anymore, used it mostly for Opioids and I'm trying to stay away from those...) deleted history of buying and selling; or so they say. Obviously you can never know for sure.Safe? No. You are giving elements of organized crime structures your address and hope everything goes well. (This also means that there is a chilling effect regarding writing a negative review about a criminal who has your address). You can therefore get ripped off despite seemingly good reviews though they def help to find a good vendor.
Then there are legal aspects. I got busted. The platform got busted. The dealer who kept my personal data and my handle got busted. What happened next was that the authorities got my info when they busted the dealer. Then they got hold of the database dump from the platform and next they reconstructed my buyers history. Long story short, I got charged with buying drugs in 31 cases. A friend of mine got busted with small amounts twice.
I dont really use darknet markets anymore since that incident.
I would suggest that if you do it you should not just be using torbrowser but boot up the most recent iso of tails instead which additionally to torbrowser provides a security hardened linux environment.
I would also suggest that you make a new acc on the platform after every purchase. This is a bit of a hassle but that way you dont accumulate a buyers history that could be used against you. This aint a social network after all.
Good luck.
In which jurisdiction do you live if I may ask, are they able to charge you with buying drugs without a trace of the actual transaction there? Was this with Bitcoin or XMR? I suppose piecing together databases from the dealer and the platform is already significant evidence, yet I don't believe that can get you convicted in most countries. I might be wrong, please do not see this as legal advice anyone.
The DW certainly poses risks, it is very hard to operate online (even with TOR) without leaving a trace of your identity, especially when making transactions. Your suggestion of making new accounts for every purchase is very good. I'd like to add that some vendors (not many) also offer "dead-drop" delivery (I have no experience with such things but I've seen it offered while browsing DW markets) which means you don't have to reveal your address or even name. They will simply leave the goods at an agreed upon location at a certain time.
About your first point, many casual drug users are not afraid to use their phone to call for a dealer to bring cocaine, mdma, amphetamines or other drugs to their house or appartment. In those scenarios you also reveal your address to a criminal organization, one that often is even more close to home.
Whether online or offline; buying drugs or medicine that isn't prescribed by your doctor (many steroids, anti-biotics etc also sold on the DW) will very rarely be without risk.
I hope everyone is careful and does proper research when engaging in such behavior.
