You'll know when this has reached the level of debate, on my part, good sirthis thread isn't even by a real person
yet here we are
debating what they mean
I refer to myself as a junkie in order to reclaim the term & be proud of it.
I don't shoot heroin though, but I might if it I could get any anymore.
I prefer intranasal as I'm very inpatient & snorting a line is quicker & more efficient than getting a rig ready. Especially if I'm gonna be using it multiple times a day.
I think junkie can also generally refer to anyone who's an opioid addict or especially an opioid addict + a pill popper. So some one popping oxies & xanax everyday could theoretically be a "junkie", (aka pill junkies) but it's all semantics to me this day and age.
Of course everyone has their technical definitions. But at the end of the day, "junkie" is a derogatory term, that I think a lot of opioid lovers are trying to reclaim & turn it into something endearing. It doesn't bother me really when some one calls me a junkie, I'll own it with pride. But it's their intent for saying it that bothers me. So I offset that by saying "fuck yeah, I'm a total junkie & proud of it!".
I just saw a video on YT of a clearly mentally retarded guy pushing a stroller on fire in Scotland. And the video called him a "junkie" and all the comments are about how bad opioids are & blah blah. Basically a video making fun of a mentally challenged homeless man & then putting it online & using it as a way to cause drug hysteria. Sorry but opioids don't suddenly make people into mentally challenged folks.
Kurt Kobain, Axel Rose, William S Burroughs, Elvis, Rozz Williams & probably a shit ton more people were "junkies" and "opioid addicts" and they were incredibly active & successful. It really pisses me off when the ignorant masses try to push this idea that all opioid addicts are braindead zombies walking the streets. So god damn frustrating. Makes me hate this planet even more.
Cunt is a great word the way its used cunt could be someone u hate or love . Its a problem when I ho back to states then you get looksCunt is not a casual word except in The UK
You disagree with what exactly?I disagree with all due respect; it is simply semantics and we are splitting hairs. I never hear junkie used in a positive way about anyone. Maybe the person using themselves; second they leave the room someone calls em a junky. (great people I know)
You can reclaim a word without having owned it to begin with. The point is to not let it be a derogatory term. Words only have power over us if we let them. If some some one calls me a junky in a derogatory way, I think it says more about them than me.That junkie is a term we should "reclaim and be proud of" -- It was never "our" word but a derogatory term used to describe the actions of the worst (perhaps majority) of us.
Deathindustrial88 -- I have felt both ways about the issue myself and obviously we are splitting hairs and this is not worth arguing over. Just another perspective; worth no more or less than yours.
She wrote talk shit and vent , not bringing dope.^ I would think its a trap. A decent looking female willing to bring dope just sounds like a trap everytime.....unless its a longtime friend or somethin.
Oddly when I say I like to party I think I am communicating clearly that substance use is welcomed .... Im not just gunna go ahead and put it in writing that I am engaged in illegal activity. (says the guy on bluelight). But im a 'jonny was' so no worry.
Lol I need some new friends desperately but junky cant be the major bond/common interest; just never works out. I wouldn't go looking for that if I were you. (which im not so do as you please)
Me neither PWUD well lets use those grey cells.I just don't like that word mate, I'm a daily cocaine user, both powder and rock, alcoholic, gambler, amphetamines and ectacy pills are always nearby and of course a massive benzo habit. I AM an addict, and that owns me. I also don't know what pwud means.
Well that first part certainly also applies for people who become bank accountants and such. Most drug addicts are gonna bring you lots of problems and fuck yku over. Just ask my patient wife.
I always dated squares.
Hanging out with dopeheads as friends always ended in arguments over money or just randomly never see the MF again, drunken fights, or they try and steal from u. They also sleep around a lot more than squares so not good for relationships.
I did, in The Netherlands we had Herman Brood RIP, who held the honour tittle national rock n roll junkie. Really nice guy, real entertainer and charming. Speed user, alcoholic and liked lady sex paid or unpaid.I disagree with all due respect; it is simply semantics and we are splitting hairs. I never hear junkie used in a positive way about anyone. Maybe the person using themselves; second they leave the room someone calls em a junky. (great people I know)

Person Who Uses Drugs?

As a gay person, i don't particularly like the word "queer", but people use it to describe themselves all the time now. Although queer wasn't always a derogatory term, but it still became one. Lots of drag queens love using the word "fag" as well. Same with black people calling each other "nigga". When we take a derogatory term & use it in a new context, we effectively take away it's power as a negative word.
But yeah some people aren't going to agree with that & that's fine to disagree.
I love heroin & pop pills every day, so I think of myself as a junkie, but not in a bad way. People who don't use drugs are often boring & square to be around anyway.
Some fun facts : The term "junkie" came from the fact that narcotic addicts use to steal scrap metal & other "junk" for money.
And according to Merriam Webster, a "junkie" is anyone addicted to narcotics, especially heroin. Why it became "only people who shoot up heroin" & who decided that is beyond me.

"Junkie : a person who is addicted to narcotics and especially to heroin "
The term "junkie" originated in the early 20th century and referred to individuals addicted to heroin or other opioid drugs. The word is believed to have derived from the practice of "junk dealing," which involved the buying and selling of scrap metal and other discarded items.
Some key points about the origins of the term "junkie":
So in summary, the term "junkie" emerged from the connection between drug addiction and the scavenging or "junk dealing" activities that some addicts engaged in to support their habits in the early 20th century.
- In the early 1900s, heroin users were often seen scavenging or "junking" for scrap metal and other items to sell in order to support their drug habit. This led to them being referred to as "junkies."
- The term may have also been influenced by the word "junk" which was used as slang for heroin or other illicit drugs at the time. So a "junkie" was someone addicted to the "junk" - i.e. heroin.
- The use of "junkie" to describe drug addicts first appeared in print in the 1920s in works by authors like Dashiell Hammett, who used it to refer to characters struggling with heroin addiction.
- Over time, the word "junkie" became more broadly applied to describe individuals addicted to a wide range of illegal drugs, beyond just heroin and opioids.
" its a problem when I ho back to states and get looks"
Stop hoing, of course, and you will not get looks; sorry couldn't resist
No I get it now.
It's like motherfucker, more or less.
As in; that crazy motherfucker is the coolest dude I know.
As opposed to " That stupid ass motherfucker owes me $1,000 and I gonna get it, one way or another"
A term of endearment or an insult, depending on the context.![]()
