Bluelighter
Beaten To Death ruled.
Wanting to see it as liked the first one.The Nun II was actually pretty fucking good. A few scenes in there that were top notch.
The best Roman Polanski film I’ve watched was the following:

Death and the Maiden (film) - Wikipedia

The others weren’t as nearly as good.
whats the best horror film of the relatively modern era, how about a top 3 or 5. i was trying to recommend one to a teenager but i dont think freddie vs jason will cut it nowadays lol/
Agreed. Mediocre, film .The rules of attraction, it was just ok.
Gaslight (1944)
Fantastic film even though I knew where it was going. Even better for a 40s era suspense flick. Talk about fucking with someone's head lol. A young Angela Lansbury who was a very foxy lady was a special treat.
8/10
Black Narcissus (1947)
Even more amazing for the 1940s. The color was lush, the set pieces well done for the time, the acting fantastic, and the plot riveting. Easily one of the top films of the 40s from what I've seen.
8.5/10
Beyond the Valley of the Dolls (1970)
Roger Ebert wrote the screenplay for this one; it shows. I cannot tell if he was trying to make a bad cult film or trying to make fun of the hippies, freaks, etc. of the late 60s, but either way it turned out to be one groovy film. Lots o' boobies and lots o' reefer smoking. Habitual smoking of marijuana cigarettes! Dear God!
7/10
Conduct Unbecoming (1975)
Decent period piece about an officer accused of assaulting a 'lady' in British India during the late 19th century. Michael and Susannah York were the stand outs but overall, it was decently acted. Not much scenery though, more of a courtroom drama.
6.5/10
The Covenant (2023)
Well paced action film about an Afghan interpreter and the man who he befriends in the last years of the U.S.-Afghanistan War. Helps to bring attention to a horrible issue that our government has overlooked in our quick withdrawal from the country. Great acting from Jake Gyllenhaal as well as his counterpart Dar Salim. Felt a bit slow towards the end but still enjoyable.
7.5/10
The Name of the Rose (1986)
Sean Connery shows us he can still hack it in the later 80s. Wonderful period piece about monks who fear the world and humanity and cannot fight their inner demons in northern Italy during the Inquisition.
8/10
Joker (2019)
Maybe I'm biased, but I didn't enjoy this flick much and don't understand the 8.4/10 rating on IMDb. Felt like a rip off of Taxi Driver and other loner flicks of the 20th century. Very 1970s, but I guess if you're young and never saw those urban-decay flicks then it might seem like an amazing film. I far prefer the films that were actually shot and released during the decay of the late 1970s but that's just my opinion man. Slow, too long, decent acting from Phoenix.
6/10
Thanks for the recommendation, never heard of “Life is Hot in Cracktown”I quite liked “Joker”…but you’re right in that it was essentially a rehash of the “urban decay” sub genre that came out of the 1970s. But, I’m just kind of a sucker for Phoenix I guess lol, I liked his performance in the film and thought it was a great sympathetic character study…I liked the grimy 70s backdrop and the looming threat of open class war at the end of the film…I was actually surprised by how much I liked the film cuz I was expecting not to like it lol, but then again I’m also a sucker for the films of Ferrara, de Palma etc lol and I thought it was a decent modern homage to those kinda films
Another modern “urban decay” film I was thinking of earlier was “Life Is Hot In Cracktown”. If you like that style of film and haven’t seen it you might want to check it out![]()
