🌟🌟 Social 🌟🌟 What's the last film you saw? v. Why doesn’t Peter Jackson wear shoes?

I watched "Hanna," a film from 2011. It's kind of Bourne Identity meets a Femme Fatale flick. Maybe a little like "Leon the Professional." I liked it a lot better than the Bourne series though and I think the teen acting in it does a really good job. The action sequences were pretty dope.

Speaking of that, which I re-watched on Bluray last weekend...

Babylon (2022)

This movie was a straight mashup of 'meta' concepts, while being in many ways a scene for scene remake of Boogie Nights in a 1920s/30s Hollywood setting. In fact it was so eerily similar that I found myself quite bored quite fast, being able to anticipate each and every scene as it came up. Throw in some La La Land style scoring and plot elements and there you have it, you've seen Babylon. The performances were decent, many scenes were borderline NC-17, but it just felt like the whole film was trying too hard to be something profound when it was anything but.

Definitely a high dollar production and well shot, but can't recommend wasting time on it if you've seen both Boogie Nights and La La Land.

5.8/10

Dark Planet (1997)

How on Earth did they get Michael York for this? Low budget, worst sfx of the 1990s, looked like a straight to vhs kinda movie. Plot was okay but acting was awful. Put me to sleep while I stayed up to monitor my nauseous dog. Not even worth watching as a 'so bad it's funny' film, not even worthy of MST3K.

1/10

My buddy recently saw “Babylon” and absolutely trashed it lol. I might be interested in checking it out just for the so-bad-it’s-good value, if it has any of that

Oppenheimer was long but pretty good. Pretty much missed Casey Affleck. Great makeup if that's a thing, and the soundtrack was amazing.

I'll wait till it comes out on cable. No way I'm making it 3hrs with no intermission.

I thought that was decent, I had low expectations going into it. Saoirse Ronan is a very talented younger actress. I know she's 29, which might not be young to some of you, but at this point it's pretty young to me.

Last watched "A Private War" (2018) with Rosamund Pike portraying Marie Colvin, a real-life war correspondent who regularly went to the most dangerous places in the world. It was alright. I didn't really know much about her, so it was interesting in learning about someone new. I definitely couldn't do the job she did. I get dizzy when I hear people talk about things that happened to them. Actually seeing people get killed or coming across mutilated bodies would be something that would really disturb me. Though, a good portion of the movie was seeing her in between assignments and struggling with what she had been through. Likely suffering from PTSD.

She asked "what did we watch last night?" this morning and I havent a clue.
Musta been decent if we watched it.
Usually its one movie after the next (or tv series).
Its all one big movie, yall.
:drama:

Red / Red 2 - both solid, fun movies. Great cast, good action, and it's all tied together with decent comedy. A bit absurdist, doesn't take itself too seriously. I'm highly cynical about action and comedy movies, so I was surprised I enjoyed it so much.

Just watched 1990 The Bronx Warriors, it's like escape from new york and the warriors. Tubi has so many cool movies on their site check it out, I already have 19 movies saved on my list I plan on watching.

Air: it's a movie about basketball shoes. It's about as interesting as it sounds.

The Meyerowitz Stories: excellent dysfunctional-family comedy from Noah Baumbach. Adam Sandler in top form, not quite Uncut Gems level but up there.

M3gan: fun little horror movie. Doesn't take itself too seriously.

Sam & Kate: a hipster-y rom com. Not exceptional in any way, but watchable.

Drive: action movies aren't typically my thing but I liked this one. It was stylish and the pacing was good.

Saw the new Indiana Jones (Dial of Destiny) in theaters a few weeks ago.. it's been too long since I saw the other (actually good) Indiana Jones movies to compare but it was kind of meh.
The deepfake technology was kind of cool to see in a movie, but it looked semi-uncanny.. like they looked so fake and kind of like mannequins? Strange shit.

I watched Talk to Me last week and The Last Voyage of the Demeter today.

T2M was excellent, and in my mind totally lived up to the reputation A24 has built for itself.

Demeter wasn't perfect any means, but there were several god-tier vampire movie moments spread throughout. Visually stunning in parts, totally surprising in others like "woah... I didn't expect this movie to go there..." moments. Seriously a couple scenes that will be burned into my leaky benzo brain forever.

Definitely recommend both if you like the genre.

i saw oppenheimer.

the heavyweight ensemble cast was great, cillian murphy particularly.

it was a little slow in places and a little heavy-handed in others but i thought it was excellent.

I agree. I think the obvious criticism is Nolan should have cut out probably 15 minutes somewhere. Personally I wish they would have spent more time exploring the time period where he first left home for university and fell in love with physics and the possibilities of science. That one brief scene of him sitting in the dark in his dorm room felt other worldly. I didn't mind the black and white part at the end, it was quite intriguing, but I feel it could have been abbreviated. I feel like for a movie named Oppenheimer we could have devoted a little more real estate to how he became Oppenheimer.
