Anyone else endlessly frustrated by this?
I know, if it's a new diagnoses and you have very intense anxiety you get get low-dose diazepam for (either 2 weeks or 3) but that's it. And even that is super-rare.
They'll give you SSRI's, Tricyclics, Anti-Histamines, Anti-Psychotics...ANYthing except the very effective meds that are actually designed for anxiety that we have :/
My friend has M.S. and gets prescribed 80mg of diazepam a day. Now, I don't in any way begrudge my friend these, which he gets for painful muscle cramps in his back...but I can't even get like 5mg 2 or 3 times a day for panic attacks, NOTHING.
But the doctors that will not prescribe any benzos are more than happy to give me dangerous anti-psychotics. At one point they had me on 800mg Quetiapine a day. People with severe Schizophrenia and out of control Mania are prescribed that, or less, sometimes. Besides the side-effects it's known for, it made my blood sugar 6 times higher than the maximum normal range so much that I was mis-diagnosed as an insulin-dependant diabetic....they really think that is a safer alternative to a light benzo?
