Does the effect of methamphetamine differ when taken nasal versus oral (as happens with methylphenidate)?

As per the title:

Methylphenidate is apparently similar to cocaine when snorted.
It's effect is very mild when orally ingested however.
I believe this is because it bypasses metabolism when nasally inhaled and therefore has more potency, and side effects.

Methamphetamine takes a little longer to work orally but is extremely potent.
When consumed by snorting/nasal-ROA, is there any metabolic different, does the come-down hit harder, are side effects more acute (as happens with snorted methylphenidate)?

Not really IME. It just hits a bit faster and so harder when snorting or smoked. Orally is "smoother" and lasts a bit longer than when snorting. I prefer smoking meth though. Urgh, I want some now...

No difference in the come down when used orally?

It's not less emotionally turbulent?

I had a come down from nasal meth that was distinctly emotionally frightening.

Is that exclusive to nasal, or can happen with oral also?

@Atomic_Decay any thoughts on this?

I think the comedown can be harsher when smoking/snorted as it leaves your system more rapidly. I almost always use benzos and sometimes heroin (and prescribed methadone) on the rare occasions I use meth (I'm in the UK so it's not prevalent here) so I don't mind the comedowns so much. Haven't used meth in about a year now.

Would you say the difference in come-down is

1) particularly pronounced when snorted, versus swallowed?

2) Or just, could be harsher - somewhat?

I honestly don't know. I've only another meth about 3 times and even then I was smoking it as well. Sorry. Maybe someone more experienced can chime in. Atomic decay or someone should hopefully be able to tell you.
Do you notice a pronounced difference @JohnBoy2000? I suppose it's your body, so if that's the case then us telling you "no" isn't really gonna help you.

Meth is not a drug I have much experience with but from few times I tried it it seems like different ROI produces significantly different results, not really like with cocaine (where smoking feels more like a totally different drug) but nothing like with plain amphetamine (where snorting it results in much more fiendish use but not better high compared to doing it orally).

When consumed orally previously, I had no issues with the come down, at all.

Nasally, after the come down I got a compulsion to re-dose, and horrible emotional upset the few days after during the come down phase.

Interesting. Well, there you go. Maybe just stick to oral dosing. I think I read the nasal ba or meth is 70-80% and orally is only 60% so if you're snorting the same amount of meth then you're getting up to 20% more of the drug, plus the compulsion to take more and more sudden drop in blood concentration could lead to harsher after fx.

It's possible.

But life circumstances also had made me distinctly more emotional, which may have caused the harsher emotions side effects after nasal dosing.

Though I must emphasize, the nature of the high itself didn't differ at all, almost.

I didn't feel any different with nasal versus oral dosing, apart from the nasal ROA effects lasting probably 6 hours shorter.

.......

In contrast to ritalin (/methlyphenidate), I've never dosed it nasally, but orally it's a decent stimulant for studying etc.
Those who dose it nasally say it's like cocaine that ROA.

So the effect of that drug differs totally depending on ROA.

Curious why that is, and why meth isn't like that?

I think it's cos methylphenidate having a much higher nasal ba than oral, and it hits faster. I haven't heard it's quite as good as cocaine, but I've only had ethylphenidate and 4f-methylphenidate, never tried ritalin.

Oh really?

It's just about BA?

I thought something to do with metabolites and more acute brain effects by by-passing the liver with snorting it, but if it is in fact only about BA - in contrast to meth, oral vs nasal BA only differs by about 20% so there shouldn't in theory be a dramatic difference in come down depending on ROA.

In theory.

I wonder is that fiendish use related to the nature of emotional turbulence experienced during the come down?

I found that with meth also.

Compulsion to re-dose when snorting, but not a particularly better high - and horrible after cravings and come down.

The difference between oral and intranasal is definitely more pronounced with methylphenidate. Methamphetamine certainly is different when sniffed, but methylphenidate is very different. Fast acting reuptake inhibitors like methylphenidate and cocaine tend to produce very different effects as you change ROA, when compared to long-lasting releasing agents, like methamphetamine.

So what are you saying about the fiendishness of snorting meth? What’s your explanation?

Again, snorting meth and eating meth are different, just not as different as snorting and eating methylphenidate (or cocaine).

Take oral cocaine versus snorted cocaine for instance. The profound difference in effect between the two ROA's makes it feel like a different drug. Take it a step further and compare oral cocaine versus smoked freebase cocaine; the difference is so profound that it is totally unrecognizable as the same substance. Has to do with the mechanism of action and pharmacokinetics of these short-acting reuptake inhibitors

Well even after many hours (days on few occasions) I would still feel every line I would snort but further with experience I would get into state where one more line would only prolong experience and gave me short but nice feeling going trough my spine. At first, I mean when I first had good amphetamine I would take a decadent dose and maybe redosed few times max but every new dose would basically restart initial high. In either case I find that pure amphetamine causes little to no of a real unpleasant crash beside having problems getting to sleep and feeling tiered and somewhat washed out after it.

I imagine meth is whole another story, I could totally see how high so much more intense probably results in hard comedown if you push it too much/too long. Few times I had meth I liked all aspects better but never really overused it.

I liked most uppers I tried better than amphetamine and had best experiences with it when I used in combo with something. Even so it’s surprisingly good for sex for such a functional stimulant. And it’s nice even only weed and beer make comedown almost a pleasant experience but I know what you mean with emotional turbulence.
