Mass Shooting and Gun Control Megathread

Oh I see now...you got principles indeed&faith of justice...sorry,if I was hard.Quite interesting for me-American society...always keep up my interest....it's some kind experiment for me-brave,but dangerous also.

...wow. Tell that to the people who were there, or lost someone, in the mass killings, or are now living in, or escaped from, a war zone. Let me ask you this: have you been to Ukraine in the past few months? We have at least one person who regularly posts here who is close enough that he's able to see what's happening. Argue the root causes of the Ukraine conflict all you want, there's room there to discuss, but to claim it's not happening and entirely made up, without actually being there, disregarding the huge amount of information being put out by those who are there or affected, borders on insanity.

Why don’t these kids know that there’s a way they can shoot firearms, get paid, and be way better off in life? You only have to serve for 20 years to get a full pension, and never work a day in your life after. Someone who joins at 17 with a parental waiver can be fully retired at age 37… 37!!! How is that not appealing? Not to mention the stability and routine that military life offers.

We need to figure out how to show them that they should want a future. That life has good parts.

I agree with you, other than I wanted to say, they're in the worst place they've been in in recent history. Despite all the issues we face, things are still better for us than at most other points in history. I mean before the early 20th century/late 19th century, the working class man was being paid a pittance to work in factories for the industrial revolution moguls with zero workers' rights, working 16 hour days, getting killed by the machines they operated with nothing provided for their families. Or mining, with the same problems. Before that, they probably would have been sharecroppers or some other form of peasant owned by someone in the aristocracy.

But overall yah I agree with you, we're in a local low point and heading down. And the people who are upset only have better conditions for their parents to compare to. And we absolutely, 100%, have to figure out how to address the underlying anger and fear that is the root cause of this violence.
 
Thomas Jefferson apparently wanted the constitution rewritten every 20 years so that the country wouldn't be run by dead men.

This isn't a jab at guns even though I'm posting it in this thread, but the constitution in general

I can't say that'd be a good thing; if anything it would lead to extreme political violence and unrest. Imagine if life was one way, then you turn 20... and now everything you believed in is illegal or 'wrong'. We have to hold fast to some history or else we will be lost to it.

Well, luckily the last attempted coup was rather dismal and a massive failure, aside from creating a new religion (Trumpism).

Indeed it isn't. Amendments can and have been made. I think people often forget this. The last amendment (25th I think?) which stops politicians from taking bribes essentially, was suggested to the states in the late 1700s... and finally ratified in 1992. But sometimes amendments are passed swiftly, be that at the behest of the Feds (Reconstruction Era) or at the behest of the people (the creation, and subsequent removal, of the 18th amendment, fixed by the 21st).

We can change the constitution, but there needs to be a grassroots effort, and well... people need to stop watching Fox, CNN, MSNBC, etc. because Lord knows they'd stymie any attempts at passing any novel amendments to the Constitution.
 
The youngsters need ideals.Something to fight for in good sence of the word.Same shit with youngsters here.Yes we have not guns free sale,but more of them are totally lost-live only for today,most of them never ever saw a book.No faith.No good examples of how to live life.When i was a child most of us wanted to be cosmonauts or firefighters or policemen.Now they want quick money...to be a criminal is good example.Where is the Church?-they only shout against pride parades and nothing more....don't know,but fundament must be faith....something that teach the middle way,without excessions,promisquity and teach you to accept...to hold on your spirit alive.It's so difficult and in the same time easy

Wow, talk about a failed amendment then. That didn't work at all, lol... in fact we have an entire industry and a job title for it (lobbyist).

Actually the 25th amendment deals with presidential succession in the case that the president is removed or dies. We did pass some legislation against political bribery, it's not part of the constitution, though, from what I can see. Well actually, I found this:

Yeah I was wrong, I must have been thinking of something else. Didn’t get much sleep last night lol. But it did take over 200 years to ratify a plan for replacing the president should he get killed… not sure why something like that was contentious at all honestly.

But the point remains, much like alcohol and firearm ownership have been made a constitutional right, I think the only way to secure abortion and many other ‘morally questionable’ rights is through ratification of amendments.

This stuff has to be grass roots. The same way they passed both the 18th and 21st, gotta get the people involved.

But I diverge off topic, my bad.

we have a real police problem in this country between them shooting citizens, running away from a gunman when they had body armor and a numerical advantage and it is their job, now shooting a bunch of people

While trying to shoot a man in the back, police also managed to hit five bystanders.


More often than not, police do not stop a mass shooting. In Denver over the weekend, they actually started one. According to the Denver Post, police in the Lower Downtown area opened fire to stop a man who allegedly pulled a gun. They managed to shoot five bystanders in the process.


According to the police account of the incident — which is always suspect and often inaccurate — a young man involved in some sort of altercation outside a bar “lifted up his hoody as though he was armed with a handgun.” Officers approached him, and he started to walk away while reaching for his waist “in a motion consistent with pulling out a firearm.” One could probably describe this as a motion consistent with tucking in your shirt, too, but cops assumed he was pulling out a gun.


One officer, who said he “was in fear for his life,” claimed the man “pointed the firearm in their direction,” so the officers opened fire on the man despite the fact that he had his back turned to them. They hit the man, as well as five other people who were also on the crowded street. Everyone, including the allegedly armed man, survived the shooting.
 
There was a recent story about cops that shot a hail of bullets at a suspect who was a lookout at a robbery. They ended up killing one of their own officers, then gave the suspect 30 years out of retaliation (for a somewhat minor role in a crime). They basically gave him a murder sentence because of their own gun crazy mistake.

Yeah I've never understood the whole "crisis actor" line. Like, I'm all for expressing skepticism about certain lines that government and media take, but when it comes to certain "conspiracy theories", I mean, well there's literally so much proof that the shit actually happened that you are being rather silly and foolish to take these conspiracy theories seriously.
