Whatever happened to GHB?GBL

Gbl is amazing, I love the high and it's a very manageable substance IME (as long as you know what you're doing). I could use it every night without risking dependency or any side effects whatsoever.
I'm very lucky to have access to 99.9% GBL, but it won't last forever (still have to be somewhat cautious about it).

Not that manageble 4me - I certainly keeled over with a slight overdose worrying affect on your memory too. Glad Its out of my life.

Jeez..... I'm currently paying £500 for 500ml !!! (for GBL)
Back in the late 90s, we bought a 200 liter metal vat/barrel GBL from a chemical supplier in Europe for around 2500 EUR.. (The NaOH were bought from another source though ;) ) Old times and sins now forgotten.

these 205l barrels? this price i a bit high for that amount. the main supplier for gbl sells 1000l for around 1600eur...

Yes, you are right. I calculated the price wrong from my currency, it was 18000 SEK (1600 EUR) I believe, for BASF gbl. There are days I sorely miss the white fluffy GHB powder, but all in all I am glad those days are over =) Have a nice day everyone!

Nah, it's a wonderful drug. You just have to piss about a bit finding your exact sweet spot. 0.1 less than unconsciousness, which is a mere occupational hazard to the committed user.
I've woken up, half way through falling off computer seat (sometimes with trousers around ankles!). Def trial and error, with a good helping of horrible embarrassment.

Well it's not that far removed from monosodium glutamate (msg)...
Interesting. Very interesting indeed. In terms of the the physical taste they are not a million miles apart. They would seem to be in very similar ball parks indeed.

Are you allowed to offer any further information on this?

A quick search online found a couple of threads on the above topic of interest. Unfortunately, it seems that it's not a cake walk in the park for a person with zero chemistry skills or knowledge to turn MSG into GHB. Perhaps it would be like Jesus turning water into wine, although probably nowhere near as far fetched as that.

The mention of the similarities between the two substances was initially very exciting though I have to say.

You decarboxylate glutamate (there is even a protein in our bodies that does that), you end up with gaba. With this you could do some sandmeyer like reaction to end with ghb or gbl. So it’s doable.

 o_O

Regrettably I dropped Chemistry as soon as possible when I was in school and I gave up on even trying to pay the slightest of attention long before that, so i haven't the foggiest of notions of what you mean.

If someone could visually guide me through the process of what to do by showing me what they do then I could possibly pick it up, because I am a visual learner and thinker, but reading these gobledegook scientific jargon words it might as well be a a foreign language.

Well, it's possible to turn GABA into GHB, with a very simple method. Heating an amine with nitrous acid (generated with potassium nitrite and hydrochloric acid) turns the NH2 into an OH group, so gamma amino butyric acid (available from lots of places) gets turned into gamma hydroxybutyric acid. Can't remember if it has a specific name though...
