I think it's basically just supposed to demonstrate that Jesus was able to resist the devil's temptation for 40 days. I think it is both a test and practice for what he's going to have to do.i've recently begun cracking through the gospel, i wrote off Christianity at a young age but i'm trying to explore it again now
i'm curious on people's thoughts on Matthew 4
"Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil....
...Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him."
I skipped the parts of jesus turning down the devil's temptations, if you were wondering. my question is - why did the holy spirit lead him to the desert? As an exercsie in faith? The last line seems to imply that staving off temptations will lead to salvation, is this the proper interpretation?
