Does Psilocybin interfere with Bipolar?

I’m just wondering it theirs anything you can caution someone that’s was diagnosed bipolar at an early age to be weary of. I’m almost ready to take a first dose, but I remain scared of it “possibly activating latent or current mental disorders. My moods are subject to change but I currently am unmedicated and don’t really know if I ever had it or just lacked discipline and direction as a kid. I don’t know suffer anything schizo affective. I don’t hear voices or see things, and I’m trying to avoid any hallucinations unless I’m on a psychedelic. I’m so nervous so it would be nice to have that worry eased that my fears are overblown. They generally are. I’ve taken mushrooms at extremely high doses and suffered no ill effects other then diarrhea the day of (sorry tmi) and LSD a couple of times. I’m looking forward to the experience but I’m so nervous I got a call into having an appointment with my psychiatrist ( only seen for anxiety meds) to discuss any possible issues that could arise provided I really am bipolar type 2. I do sometimes not sleep and have a lot of ideas. But again I been using other illicit substance that have profound impact on mood so generally my baseline no drug usage, I have no real effects but anxiety one I’m hoping to overcome with the usage of psychedelics. That being said if I really am bipolar, is it a problem or is that only in schizo effective (no offense to anyone who is only way I know how to describe it) id like to know ASAP cause I’m debating on taking a tester gram or 2 half gram split up later today to gauge potency of my mushrooms

When were you diagnosed and when were your previous experiences?

The partial good news is you aren't on meds. Certain bipolar meds like lithium are definitely a no-go when tripping.

Technically I was diagnosed bipolar but never agreed with the diagnosis. Never caused a problem while tripping.

Maybe someone more knowledgeable with bpd can comment.

When I was 13, to preface there’s always been something “wrong” reported with my behavior. I couldn’t sit still, school bored me and I’d rather entertain my class then learn from it. So since kindergarten by the recommendation of a kindergarten teacher Iwas placed on ADHD meds, which in itself can cause mood changes. This continued until another recommendation stated I may be bipolar. I was given every med you could name with no help, at 15 I got tired of the side effects. I could list every circumstance but one example would Be taking Ambien. It made me tattoo fuck you on my arm. Ambien was used to get me to sleep counteracting one meds side effects given to me for one reason or another and .. you know how it goes. That being said since 16 I’ve self medicated with the occasional psychedelics and I’ve remained off meds with generally no crashes or extreme highs. I generally doubt the construct of bipolar in generally for myself. I just wonder if it let’s just say I’m wrong cause I’ve been known to be before if I could fuck myself up with these. I assume after 15 plus years of chronic marijuana use I doubt one or two doses of psilocybin will fuck me up in the head anymore then my cocaine usage as a teen or my abuse of stims as a teen. I’m just trying to gain a better look at psychedelics not the DARE bullshit we was all fed. I have no experience really other then ingesting them recklessly as a teen and what I’ve researched in the past 6 months regarding micro-dosing and help for depression

Wow interesting article. Cannabis sends more people to the hospital than all other drugs combined. Didn't know that.
I would asses that to the ways of ingestion. We generally smoke our cannabis, therefore it isn’t seen as a psychedelic. To me it is. But it would make sense that if I was going to have a break in mental health that it woulda happened with all the toxins I’ve ingested over the years. Overall after A quick browse of erowid first time experiences with it, show that most dosed themselves higher then they should and ended in places they didn’t wanna go but reported no ill effects to follow up although all though, you never hear follow ups Michael pollen suggest that for many. Most have relief in mental disorders, and with my perpetual panic, a dose could possibly help me tame some of my hyperactive anxiety. That said I’m ready. I don’t know when, I have things to do but I’ve taken a klonopin and I may try a tester dose tomorrow or tonight when klonopin wears off to the point it’s not kicking but but only dulling my anxiety. I call it the klonopin hangover where your not moved by anything for 24 hours either way I may just pregame with a klonopin I’ll resort back to my threat about that hope to see you there

Benzos do dull the trip slightly but I love taking benzos while tripping. Makes it comfortable if you are worried about it being too intense.

Yeah I believe first time returning not knowing the potency of these Golden Teachers ima need a little dull. Do you think I should go gram or half gram?

One of my best mates is bipolar to the point of having been admitted to psychiatric hospital once because he went off the manic rails and couldn't sleep for days. He excels on psychedelics!

He's like the most grounded when he's tripping.

Hey @FuneralFather, a quick comment for you. I was recently doing some research for a potential client I was going to coach who is diagnosed BiPolar, and since I wasn't very familiar with psychedelics and BiPolar, I looked into it a bit more and came across this web page. Please take what I"m about to share with a giant grain of salt, but...

What was interesting is the relationship between BDNF (which is increased by taking psychedelics, among many other ways) and BiPolar. From what I can tell based on my reading, there is a strong relationship between BiPolar and amount of BDNF in the brain. Basically, the more BDNF, the less of an issue the BiPolar symptoms seems to be.

In other words --again, take this with a big grain of salt-- it could be possible that psychedelics help to minimize issues with BiPolar by increasing BDNF, at least temporarily. I found that pretty encouraging, since most of what is said about BiPolar and Psychedelics is to tread carefully. I wouldn't take this as all the information you need to feel like it's okay, but I'm hoping this is at least a bit encouraging for you.

Page here for you to look at:

Wow this is crazy! And very exciting. Normally bipolar is destabilized with everything. Marijuana, opiates, benzos, it’s interesting to see that it can help. I’ve heard of stories about people who were going through manic phases and it brought them back down to baseline and also with depression when you had a crash with bipolar psychedelics help pick you back up. Now if I can only get over my fear of them but I plan to take a 1 g dose Friday. should I mention this to my psychiatrist. Currently only see him for refills on my klonopin but I have to talk to him anyways about the klonopin causing nausea, he’s a very chill optimistic doctor. He’s even said he don’t see no problem with using kratom to help manage my bipolar. (Basically told him I’ll never take another SSRI) id like him to know, and see my notes I’m keeping with ratings on my mood things I’m experiencing. Obviously won’t be able to tell him everything. But I noticed since my taste tester .25 me and my SO been getting along better. Thoroughly disappointed with only .25 being as I’ve ate 10-14 grams before. Lol
