"Narcissistic injury" aka a bruised ego. The first narcissus drowned staring at his reflection. Does anyone know if trump likes hot tubs? Probably can't swim. We do know he likes water sports, so there could be opportunity to injure the narcissist that way.

I am. ;) For real, although I graduated a long time ago

I'm going to defer to the person with the degree in psychology about Trump. It has nothing to do with any particular similarity to my layperson opinion. ;)

The article below provides a brief overview of the latest research about the distinctions between narcissism and self-esteem.

There is a link at the bottom of this piece to a recent literature review. You can download the.pdf for the full academic article.

The Difference Between Narcissism And Self-esteem

Having NPD isn't just "being an asshole" but it's clear you'd rather remain ignorant to what it really is.

Are you sure it's the narcissist who suffers? "Man, maybe if I wasn't so fucking awesome and right all the time, more people would like me."

Seriously though, most disorders are "made up". Doesn't really matter if you live with an asshole, so sorry Mr. Skin. Have you considered borderline personality disorder? A different flavor of asshole.

Exactly Scrofula. Everyone suffers but the so called narcissist.

Nutty, I have had intimate dealings with so called sufferers of NPD. Im far from ignorant on it. We dont need to make every personality type a mental disease.

I thought you said NPD was made up, but you have had intimate dealings with someone with it? Make up your mind.

I didnt say they had it. Everyone around them did. I saw, as I said, a complete asshole, whos behavior was justified in the shroud of a ficticious disease.

Well, you've lost me. If people want to stay in the dark about psychiatric topics I guess they will.

The narcissist's true self is wounded. It's their false self that everyone sees. In other words a facade. It's almost like a protective barrier put up, and if anyone tries to permeate it the results aren't pretty. NPD and BPD have some overlapping symptoms but they aren't the same thing.

And as far as most disorders being made up, I'll have to remember that when trying to deal with my chronic depression.

Nutty, I truly am sympathetic if you have to deal with someone like this especially if its a family member or significant other. My situation wasnt quite like that but I saw a wake of fed up and broken people around the narcissist while they go on as is. If you never get better but can carry on, how are you sick?

I still think people are mistakingly thinking there's just low self esteem. And high self esteem aka normal self esteem. There's not. A narcissist like trump does not have low self esteem nor do they have healthy self esteem.

But I'm sick of this discussion so I'm gonna just leave it there.

Mr. Skin, I'm not disagreeing with you, I was pointing out it's moot to argue whether a personality disorder is "real" or not, because it's all just classification. That's how I was cured of disthymia, when it was taken out of the DSM. And folks suffer whether it's "real" or not.

But then you mentioned wounding and facades, and obviously that describes everyone on earth. And thus we are ALL assholes.

I don't think it's bad to have some classifications for mental illness. Of course it's not a perfect system. People get misdiagnosed, disorders get removed or renamed, but I still think it's overall beneficial for psychologists, psychiatrists and people that are interested in mental health to have a guideline to know what they're dealing with.

As far as "wounding and facades" I don't think that describes everyone on earth and I certainly don't think that we're all assholes. That's just your own projection.

So you disagree with the premise of the piece on the review article I posted (and the article)? I'm surprised. I felt it was compelling.

Sorry to bother, but I was wondering if anybody had any idea what's going to happen now that the Opiods have been declared a "public health emergency." Will we really see any change?

Probably not too much change. I am hearing Opana is being pulled from the market but I'm not sure if it's all oxymorphone or just the brand name Opana. There's going to be some more funding for certain things and I'm sure opiate prescription are going to be restricted even further. I watched the speech and it seemed like more of the same innefective crap as always to me. They could help people if they wanted but they won't. I sincerely hope opiates don't go anywhere I love them dearly.
