2017 Trump Presidency Thread

Not open for further replies.
Racist scapegoating really pisses me off.

Trump's connections to the russian mafia make him as much of a gang member as any poor latino..

If I was unclear, I would like the people benefiting from DACA to stay.

The MS13 issue should not be conflated with this one. If they are gangbangers breaking the law, that is something else.

Everyone, including many senior Cabinet members including Chief of Staff Kelly, Trump's aides, CEOs, immigration advocacy groups, Scrofula, probably others here including me and Dave (with qualifiers) are pro-DACA.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Trump think it is an illegal program.

Therefore, I think we're going to see kids being deported en masse.
Yes, they are now but not on this scale. I think it's about 750,000.

These kids don't know what they're missing. Sure, they don't speak Spanish or know a single person south of the border, and don't understand the culture; but they get excellent work at the call centers as conversant English speakers (per a This American Life a while back). At a fraction what they'd make here, but great for the location.

You might be wondering why Trump is trying to make Twitter hay of Comey drafting a document exonerating Secretary Clinton before the classified FBI investigation of her was supposedly finished, other than Comey's concern that an election outcome might depend on it, and that documents describing both outcomes might need to be carefully worded and reviewed by other individuals like practicing lawyers (some people don't have a confident dad like Trump to bail Jr out - or try!).

But Why the Tweet, cduggles?

It's because Mueller's investigation is putting the hard pressure on Trump!

The Tweet Explained: Trump's lawyers had an earlier draft of his Comey firing letter that his aides kept from going out to Comey.

Unfortunately, now Mueller has it.

Now some of you might feel 1) Trump's comments to the Russians between revealing sensitive (and until then code-word classified) intel from the Israelis regarding Comey's firing, calling him "a nutjob" and the Russia investigation connection and 2) Trump's Lester Holt interview where he said he fired Comey because of the "Russia thing" and that he decided it before getting any input to make that decision are, together, enough evidence to prove why Trump fired Comey.

Well, now you are getting to know Mueller and we all know "just kidding/you're pardoned" Donny Trump.

What could be better than that, cdugs?

Mueller's working not only with the IRS, but the NY Attorney General.

You see pardons are only for federal crimes and are specific to a time frame (or specific types of crimes at the federal level).

So Mueller is boxing in the witnesses because they can still do time in the NY Department of Corrections at places like Rikers or Attica (yes, that one). Also, if they are testifying at the Federal level with a pardon, they can't take the Fifth Amendment, which among other things allows individuals to avoid answering questions to avoid self-incrimination.

So little fish ----> big fish.

There are timing issues because once a federal prosecution reaches a certain point, double jeopardy kicks in (you can't be tried for the same crime in America with qualifiers that Scrofula, another user, or Google can elucidate.

I wonder who trusts Trump to pardon them?

It's almost like Mueller has an uncanny sense of how to handle the worst kind of criminal despite their keen criminal instincts.

This makes me happy. :)

So pardon away, Trump!

(I have links. To things.)

I'm sure the totally sincere David Wodenhouse & House Republicans will be on to decry what they saw as a totally for reals bad call.

Please to cite that 10 billion figure. Please don't forget to subtract all the losses. Also, are you too currently under investigation by the NY Attorney General? Not to mention the FBI? Also also the Florida AG?

Mueller is working with the IRS criminal investigations unit. Those returns will be subpoenaed if they aren't already, and be revealed in the trials, where we'll see Manafort sing like an ugly flightless bird in exchange for only a few years in federal prison.

I'm a landlord myself, and I've seen countless trust fund babies piss their money away on strippers and booze.
What Trump did (turn a few hundred mill into $10 billion) takes real business savvy.

Trump's fortune is estimated to be a fraction of that. He would have done better with index funds.

Trump's net worth has grown about 300% to an estimated $4 billion since 1987, according to a report by the Associated Press. But the real estate mogul would have made even more money if he had just invested in index funds. The AP says that, if Trump had invested in an index fund in 1988, his net worth would be as much as $13 billion.

The S&P 500 has grown 1,336% since 1988.

Other billionaires' net worths have beaten the stock market's growth in that time. Bill Gates, for example, saw his grow increase 7,173% since 1988 to $80 billion. Warren Buffet's wealth grew 2,612% in the same time period, to $67.8 billion.

Perhaps Trump was right when he said he'd renegotiate NAFTA to help Americans:

Canadian negotiators are demanding the United States roll back so-called "right to work" laws – accused of gutting unions in some U.S. states by starving them of money – as part of the renegotiation of the North American free-trade agreement. The request is part of a push by Ottawa to get the U.S. and Mexico to adopt higher labour standards under the deal.

Mexico, meanwhile, is campaigning to include its oil and gas sector in the deal.

These major moves on the labour and energy files came over the weekend at the second round of NAFTA renegotiations in Mexico City.

One group of negotiators spent all day Sunday working on the labour file, according to a schedule of the talks obtained by The Globe and Mail. One source familiar with the discussions said Canada wants the United States to pass a federal law stopping state governments from enacting right-to-work legislation; the source said the United States has not agreed to such a request. Canada believes that lower labour standards in the United States and Mexico, including right to work, give those countries an unfair advantage in attracting jobs.

(Please forgive the tardiness of my replies, I was forced to take an involuntary vacation.)

Trump denied having any business connections to Russia in July 2016, tweeting, “for the record, I have ZERO investments in Russia” and then insisting at a news conference the following day, “I have nothing to do with Russia.”
more lies.

Agenda-driven failure to understand nuance in politics. At the time even if he was trying to get a Trump Tower in Moscow, if it didn't eventuate then that would've been a true statement. Understand the lawyer-speak that politicians use instead of taking everything so literally to fuel your constant cry that Trump is a liar. Also when the media is constantly lying about Trump colluding with Russia to "interfere" with the election, then it makes sense to quell any talk of Russian ties, as any legitimate ties will look bad and be completely misrepresented by a dishonest media. Fighting fire with fire. This is why a lot of his supporters let him get away with bending the truth, as it is often in retaliation for much more nefarious lies. So "I have nothing to do with Russia" is a true statement when framed with answering the accusations of the mainstream media.

Another example: the media has barely reported on this but the DNC faced a class-action lawsuit for rigging the primaries against Bernie Sanders. The DNC's charter claims impartiality yet Wikileaks showed us that they were colluding to make sure Clinton received the nomination. Hundreds of millions of dollars were donated to the Sanders campaign under the pretense that there was a level playing field. And the type of people that donated to Sanders were some of the most desperate in our society, scrounging together 20 bucks in the hope that Bernie could become president and change things. In court, the DNC stated that the charter was simply "political rhetoric" and not to be taken seriously. That's basically lying, would you agree? Or is that just politics? Now let us look at actions - Trump gave a million dollars of his own money to the desperate and needy, while the DNC not only STOLE many millions from the poor but they got away with it! The case was dismissed, nobody got their money back and the DNC is basically free to defraud people again. This is the worst form of deception. It is institutionalized, ignored and seemingly exempt from justice.

Another example: Louise Mensch busted by The Guardian for spreading lies and fake news:
The woman who has been widely credited with the creation of the “liberal conspiracy theory” has – finally and definitively – been proven a fraud. According to the Guardian, Louise Mensch and her writing partner Claude Taylor published “bogus” allegations about President Donald Trump that had been fed to them by a hoaxer who claimed to work for New York Attorney General (and longtime Trump antagonist) Eric Schneiderman.

Or what about fired FBI Director James Comey drafting a statement to announce the conclusion in the investigation of Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server before the FBI interviewed key witnesses, including Hillary Clinton herself? Would this be considered lying? Can you say you've conducted a fair investigation if you've decided the outcome before thoroughly investigating? This is institutionalized deception and yet more evidence of insidious corruption.

Side note - it is satisfying to see this Russia conspiracy die in the ass (which I've been saying since the inauguration - it was a transparent ploy by the establishment). If he was colluding with Russia, don't you think it would've been easier for him to get a Trump Tower in Moscow? It used to be "undeniable collusion with Putin + Wikileaks to release the DNC's emails", then it was just vague "Russian collusion" and now it's "he might have done business in Russia".
WOW - a businessman maybe did business with Russians?

you (not you specifically) have a problem with hillary sending email through an insecure server
Insecure? Did the server feel ashamed for what it was doing? :P

but no problem if a foreign government wants to help affect the outcome of a u.s. election because of a candidate's business entanglements.
This is complete poppycock. There is literally zero evidence to this claim. Remember when Hillary oversaw a deal that allowed the Kremlin to obtain 20% of US uranium stores? A Kremlin bank paid Bill Clinton $500,000 for a "speech" around the same time. This is what is known as a "business entanglement" and if Trump was the one who did this then you would yelling to the heavens about it. And yes Hillary could've been president so it matters. You've got fuck-all on Trump with regards to Russia. Even if he did do business deals with Russians in the past, that means nothing as they found no evidence that Russians had any significant bearing on the election.
save for 'a few exceptions'."
Didn't know that it was illegal to do business with Russians? Sounds like partisan bigotry.

The democrat base on the other hand would be so quick to fall for such a charlatan, so had things happened the other way around, where the opposite of Nuclear Hitler (whatever that is) was the nominee for the dems, they might have had the sanity to vote for tedd cruz. I think you need to also give your party the credit that its due
It's not my party. Trump is not a true Republican either. His party hates him because the GOP has more in common with the DNC than they do with Trump which is obvious at this point. I don't think you realize how many people would've voted for Trump to stop Killary. Trump should have been easy to beat, so the blame lies squarely with the DNC. I'm not upset about this btw, I'm just pointing out how corrupt and incompetent the DNC is. If these confused Antifa children were smart they would level their anger at the DNC and demand change and impartiality so that they can beat Trump in 2020. Because the way things are going now I would hate to see how angry they get after Trump wins re-election. I don't think there's anything worse than "Nazi" that they'll be able to call their political oppoenents.

Why are wealthy celebrities Dems? Or are they? I mean once they are voting.
It just seems that way because the industry is so intolerant to conservatives. Publicy showing support for Trump would be a career-ender which is why many celebs must stay quiet. James Woods speaks about this constantly, he accepts that he has been blacklisted in Hollywood for his views but he doesn't care anymore. Speaking the truth is more important to him than sucking up to Hollywood exec-pedos which is why Woods talks about Pizzagate all the time on Twitter. He knows it is true and doesn't care about ruining his chances of getting hired for anything.

Re: the wall
Even if the US pays for it completely it will save money in the long run and be a good thing for the US. And to dismiss what previous presidents have said about securing the southern border is incredibly disingenuous and hypocritical. You can be mad at the way that Trump promoted the building of the wall, but you cannot disagree that borders are often secured for a reason and that this border specifically requires it (unless you are pro-illegal immigration, drug trafficking and human trafficking).
