2017 Trump Presidency Thread

When Putin came into power he rounded up all the corrupt oligarchs. He told them the government was basically willing to grant them an amnesty - they can keep everything they've amassed so far through dubious means but from now on they follow the law or they get taken down. Trump would do well to implement the same type of deal in the US.

Yeah, that's why some people go overboard seeing "Man in the High Castle" stuff. How can you (OK, jammin, maybe not you, Bernie Bro Consipracy Anarcho Crypto Fascist or whatever the hell) right-wingers be on board with a statement like that? Open collaboration with mafia-run industry? Taking them down, you know, with assassinations? That's what y'all say Killary does.

I'm waiting to see what he directs his employees to do next too. If anything. Other than kiss his ass or they're fired.

so I'm not sure why you are angry at him for giving it a shot at least
Let me know when he gives it a shot, will you? He can start with his entire cabinet, if they aren't all fired or subpoenaed yet.

Do you keep referring to me as jammin?

Taking them down = as in legally.
It would be nice to just be able to remove every corrupt oligarch, but power is power. You have to pick and choose your battles.

Also I do not understand the logic of some people who argue against the corrupt oligarchy yet support the Wall St candidate Clinton.

Hating trump doesn't mean you support clinton.
But at least she has some dignity about how she conducts herself.

The image that comes to mind when i think of trump is a big toddler who has shat himself.
Except, y'know - he's a fully-grown kleptocrat.

Trumps just said no transgenderes will be allowed to serve in the U.S military.
Can't see there being many that would want to.

Thank you. :|

That's very sad. I have read that the Republicans did want to work together in the senate to come up with corrections of some flaws in Obamacare as well as work from something they had recognized as good, solid, and but like everything in life it could need an upgrade that wouldn't exclude people.

Many Republicans are willing to work with Democrats to come up with a better proposal. Because of the party line (Trump excluded) about repealing Obamacare, only very senior Senators or those with a base that will be affected deeply by the Republican proposal can speak out about it. And of course, the few brave ones.

Both parties have quite different views on what should happen, but the process that has produced the best outcomes in such situations for Americans has been bipartisan negotiations. Plus the Republicans would take a lot less fire if even a few Democrats voted for it. :\

Oh well, you know how Trump is, he was mad and told the party to repeal it regardless of its merit, something which imo was built in fine grounds, but could get better and it almost worked. Of course Pence was the tiebreaker or deal breaker, so to speak. We live in times where an egomaniacal president like Trump seems to relish be able to always get away with whatever he does, even it's wrongdoing.

Have some faith Erikmen! :)

Trump wasn't angry about healthcare. He has tried to avoid tying himself to this deeply unpopular legislation. Certain people and groups are putting a lot of pressure on him to do something- or else he'd be anywhere else (e.g., golfing or screaming at the TV and his staff about the DOJ Russia investigation) and I'm not joking.

It's interesting; Republicans need this to pass to progress to their tax cut. But this legislation is so unpopular that these Senators must be thinking about their seats. Maybe they think people won't notice??

I prefer to believe, even though I'm sure it's not true, that the only nation to have ever been nuked, wants nothing to do with making nukes.

I believe you are right that the Japanese want nothing to do with nuclear bombs, and that will true remain as long the collective memory of that experience remains.

Germany, for example, is very conscious of the perception of their country, its place in the EU, and the international community in a way that connects directly to WWII.

The narrative in the United States about dropping nuclear bombs varies from "it was necessary" to something akin to Trump (idiotic). It doesn't include the horror of what happened when they did; it never does.

How can you (OK, jammin, maybe not you, Bernie Bro Consipracy Anarcho Crypto Fascist or whatever the hell) right-wingers be on board with a statement like that?

Better you than me.

I'm waiting to see what he directs his employees to do next too. If anything. Other than kiss his ass or they're fired.

I'm so disappointed because Trump's meltdown is too early and too intense dammit; Pence is licking his chops. I really thought Trump could maintain and would be stable for longer; he's unhinged. However, he might last as long as I hope because they are going have to drag him out.

11,000?? Now that is surprising.
Will those already serving be kicked out the army?

I think all that snide gummed up my keyboard.

Soso, you can't picture at least a few FTM tomboys wanting to pick up a machine gun?

Ye I can but didn't think it would be as many as 11000.
I wonder how many of those are female identifying as male?
Does anyone know what trump ment when says the military have tremendous medical costs due to transgenders?

Honey, I meant that there's no way you believed Trump could maintain anything, much less stability. Are you feeling alright?

Just realized I bet it's including non-active duty and veterans.
I'm sure it'll be justification for his cuts or whatever. Oh, the horrendous cost of VA providing hormones! To people who served their country!

It's a fraction of a hundreth of a percent the cost of prosthetic limbs from unnecessary wars!

Who would you like him to hire? Some couch potatoes who like to watch CSPAN?
He needs people in those positions that have enough power to get shit done.
I don't agree with all of his picks but I'm waiting to pass judgement on what he directs his employees to do next.
you continue to apologise for him.

imagine you had a friend who's constantly telling you how fucked the environment is and that fossil fuels are terrible. he bikes everywhere and he's always on at you because you drive a toyota with a gas engine.

he gets a new job with a pay rise and show up at your house a couple of days later in an escalade with a 6.2L V8 that gets 14 miles to the gallon.

would you wait to see what he does next or just assume that all the stuff he told you about saving the planet was bullshit based on his initial response to his new job and pay rise?

...I'm not sure why you are angry at him for giving it a shot at least.
because, in my opinion, he's not giving it a shot. he fell at the very first hurdle.

trumps tweet assault on sessions is ridiculous. if he has such a serious issue with his ag, why doesn't he take responsibility for the mistake he made when he hired him, and fire him?

"Everything starts with you. Realize that you're in charge. Whatever happens, you're responsible." (tweet by donald trump, jan 22nd 2015)
