Man is condemned to be free - Sartre
This statement has all sorts of connotations. Among them is we have free will. Not among them is any denial that a silver spoon in the mouth can help.
We make decisions whether we recognize them and take responsibility for them or not. It does not mean anyone can become anything. But it does mean that your choices make you responsible for what you are. Sartre was a Marxist. He was well aware of the consequences of the capitalist economic system. But he said there was always a choice (with the possible exception of slavery). Money doesn't equate to happiness because we are all fallible (I think the Beatles sang something not unrelated). Ultimately you are the sum of your choices, not some abstract notion of 'luck'. Whether you (one) wish to acknowledge that or not.
You pretty bang on mate. Nothing is impossible it just takes the first step to make it become possible. Try and try again. That's luck - simply the point at which the sum of all parts is in the right condition. Conditions which you either have or inadvertently have created.
Try at something long enough hard enough and believe in it you will eventually succeed. If you fail it's simply because you were doing it wrong or you didn't approach it in a way that can be successful so try try try again.
Never give up simply learn why you didn't get the "luck" first time round. Change it
