Opioids Kratom Mega Thread v. 5

Exactly, the reason marijuana has and needs so much support is because how it was illegal for over half a century. That means the government has a HUGE investment in making it illegal. It takes a tremendous force of momentum to reverse all those years of prohibition, as there are powerful people who benefit from keeping things the way they are. Legalizing brings about huge changes, as we have seen with the states that have legalized medical or recreational use. Even growers have been known to vote against legalization, as they don't want to lose their corner of the market.

With kratom we don't have this problem. We are not reversing decades of prohibition, so we dont need as much support to effect changes. Truly it would be helpful if groups like NORML would lend us a hand here though.

Right.

So what do you think about the possibility that we might be able to stop the DEA from scheduling at least ONE substance, ANY substance (even if it's NOT Kratom) in our lifetimes, and that this COULD POSSIBLY set a precedent for weakening the DEA's seemingly absolute power??

You think maybe we might stop them on SOME issue in our lifetimes and that by the time we are old the DEA won't have as much power as they do now and that the war on drugs won't be QUITE AS "successful" as it is now??

ugh i dont know what to think about DEA banning kratom..im glad Myco and others have the anger and energy to make calls and stop the ban..its complete bullshit though overall..i will say this, the ban is the only way i would have ever stopped using kratom ..now i have chronic back pain that kratom worked great for, now do i go back to pain meds? uggh fuck that..ill

So I've been experiencing my first Kratom high tonight. I took 4 capusles, which were about .7g each. So almost 3 grams in total. It was crushed leaf green, just called "original blend". I got it from a head shop, but it wasn't anything like an extract or something weird. It just says crushed leaf "Kratom", and then says the scientific name. Even though it doesn't have a particular strain on it, it definitely doesn't say "legal high" or any of that other bullshit you usually find at headshops. Just seems to be a blend of some green vein stuff.

It's been almost 4 hours, and I've had a pretty damn good Opiate/Stimulant high. A nice balance between the two, but I felt the pain killing effects came on more pronounced later in the high. I'm still pretty damn high, which I guess is normal?

Since this is a green blend, makes me wonder what a red would do, as I know they are more on the painkilling side of things.

It seemed to have made me very talkative and sociable, I guess the stimulant and opiate feeling combined.

Very cool little thing, a shame they are going to ban it. I def. wouldn't take it everyday, but nice for every once in a while. Actually itching as much if not more than if I had taken 10-15mg Hydro.

It's a real shame that they are banning something like this that, from my perspective, I could see being a fantastic tool for weaning people of very hard drugs.

I'm actually pretty blown away by the experience, I wasn't expecting this much of a high.

Hey man, check your gmail.

There is one drug that was scheduled the removed from scheduling, i think it was related to bzp.

^ probably was not even worth real scheduling because mcPP (sp?) or whatever it is was basically poison that nobody had any desire whatsoever to use. people like kratom too much and it cuts into pharma profits too much, so it won't be ignored

I love hearing this.

I don't want to get TOO optimistic, but this kind of government support against the DEA is amazing to see.

I think the DEA are just bullies who want to control our minds and bodies in the supposed ATTEMPT to protect us from ourselves, but I bet at the highest levels they are all deeply corrupt and I'm sure some DEA agents even use the drugs they confiscate and laugh about it.

We know cases like that have happened before (reminds me of the movie "Training Day").

But they don't have absolute authority over congress and the senate.

It's all a matter of HOW much more support we can get from congress and the senate on this matter, but enough overall would be theoretically capable of stopping them.

It's mind boggling to me how they think they can just make a unilateral decision to ban kratom with 30 days notice, without public comment - absolutely stunning. In effect, they were trying to assume the role of a scientific entity, which they are clearly not. They are in the business of enforcement, not scientific decision making. Meanwhile, scientists are starting to research the alkaloids in kratom. Does the DEA think it's "smarter" than the scientists?

For anybody to just come out with the assertion that kratom has no medicinal value is asinine. There's just no common sense there, let alone scientific value. Let's just look at one aspect of kratom - analgesia/ pain killing. Nobody can tell me with a straight face that kratom doesn't help with pain. It's just so straightforward. In my opinion, it's more straightforward than weed. When I smoke or eat weed, it doesn't help with pain. That's just me. For other people, it does. But if you give kratom to 10 people with pain, I'm pretty sure all 10 of them are going to say that it works.

If this scheduling does go through, which it probably will, it will be one of the most damaging, illogical, authoritarian actions the DEA has ever taken. It will effectively stifle research and clearly, kratom has a very promising future. Again, just on the subject of pain management, there's nothing else in existence that hits opioid receptors in such a way that it virtually eliminates the risk of respiratory depression while effectively treating pain, in a nonaddictive way.

No medicinal value? Are they kidding? Kratom is just such a promising substance that it's criminal to try to ban it like they did.

I disagree. The DEA does this all the time, there's just more visibility since it's kratom this time.

Does Kratom effect serotonin at all? I've used a few times, and have seemed to be fine, but I just want to make sure.

I take 40mg of Prozac a day, and don't want to have to worry about serotonin syndrome.

Thanks!

It won't affect serotonin in such a way that you need to be concerned about serotonin syndrome. I've been on 60 mg and never had any issues.

Oh good! I've just got into Kratom, and really enjoy it. I've used for two days, then take two days off.

It's helping a little bit with my Valium taper. Down to 6.5mg from the one equivalent of 60mg (3mg Klon).

It also has helped me stay away from Rx opiates.

It's simple really why the DEA is in a hurry to ban Kratom. It puts more money in their pockets. Plus they KNOW it's helping people with addiction issues. It got me off Tramadol years ago. You think they want that kind of competition out there?

What they want is for you to stay hooked on drugs and keep going to rehab facilities, paying money. They do not care that Kratom helps. They would rather see you dead from addiction as long as they are getting paid.

It's ALL corrupt. As soon as you realize that. The better off you will be.

Really stupid question:

I have a scale. I've been using it to dose, and putting the Kratom into capsules.

This results in me taking a shitload of capsules, even with "00" size capsules.

My question is: if I wanted to use my scale to weight out via toss and wash, how would I get the Kratom back onto my teaspoon once I've weighed it?

I can't pick it up with my hands, it's like sand.

I know this is stupid, and maybe it's because I'm high, but how would I go about doing that?
