Accordingly, it increases locomotor activity and extracellular dopamine concentrations in a manner similar to the selective dopamine reuptake inhibitor vanoxerine, and also blocks methamphetamine-induced dopamine release.

Actually modafinil is a Dopamine Reuptake inhibitor so it may actually block some of MDMA's effects
Accordingly, it increases locomotor activity and extracellular dopamine concentrations in a manner similar to the selective dopamine reuptake inhibitor vanoxerine, and also blocks methamphetamine-induced dopamine release. As a result, it appears that modafinil exerts its effects by acting as a weak dopamine reuptake inhibitor, though it cannot be ruled out that other mechanisms may also be at play. On account of its action as a dopamine reuptake inhibitor and lack of abuse potential, modafinil was suggested as a treatment for methamphetamine addiction by the authors of the study
If it's blocking "methamphetamine-induced dopamine release", I'm sure it would block MDMA-induced dopamine release as well.
The danger is actually serotonin syndrome, which does result in overheating indeed, but a plethora of other symptoms as well. I too think he would have been fine, more so because I have no idea about DXM dosage, but better to err on the safe side of things when it comes to potentially dangerous combinations. How did it go OP?At therapeutic levels of dxm, mixing the 2 is not that dangerous imo. Now if you drank the whole bottle then I would be worried. The danger of dxm and mdma combo is overheating. The both inhibit your bodies ability to regulate heat. Add that to 5 hours of dancing in a hot club and it will send you to a hospital real quick. But in a controlled environment with only therapeutic levels of dxm and I think the risk is minimal...There is still risk mind you and I'm no scientists but I bet you'll be fine under those conditions. Safest route is to avoid it all together though just in case.
