in this country it was a crime to be homosexual not that long ago, based on christan dogma. Look at the american christian nutters for plenty examples of how backward they are. Even in the UK and Ireland there is still antiabortionist pressure, an abortion clinic had to close in the UK recently because of aggressive protesters, so it cuts both ways.

Apparently a last minute surge of supporters put the total of voters in the leadership election over 600,000 (~300,000 signed up since corbyn)

But you can point to progress in the west over the last 400 years. I'm confident that we arn't going to legalise beating your wife up. I'm not so confident of that in middle eastern countries.

True but they tend to be badly educated and at the poorer end of the social spectrum like Timothy Mcveigh. With muslims intolerance and deranged religious fervour seems to go hand in hand with wealth and a good education. Like the schoolteacher behind the 7/7 bombings. It's hard to see any way of making progress when an education is of no help.

The idea that homosexuality was solely proscribed by the church (at least in legal terms) isn't strictly true. Until 1553, it was completely legal as a civil matter, and was only occasionally dealt with by the ecclesiastical courts, who were more concerned with matters of property, etc. Convictions were few and far between.
It was Thomas Cromwell, during the reign of Henry VIII, who pushed through the first Buggery Act in 1533. This was enacted, in part to curb bestiality as well as homosexuality. Good ol' Hank used it as an excuse to falsely accuse and subsequently execute priests and nuns, and confiscate their possessions; things which he could not have done under previous laws.
Of course, the law did define 'buggery' as 'an unnatural sexual act against the will of God and man', so religious dogma is certainly in there, no mistake. Interestingly, however, oral sex between males (or any act not involving anal penetration) remained completely legal. Does this tell us something about Henry, the avid fan of naked wrestling, I wonder?

Undoubtedly - the clergy were the biggest threat to Henry's (and Tommy Cromwell's) authority, so the law was passed solely to curb that power and annex monastic wealth and lands. Ironic, considering that many would seek to blame the the church for its enactment.
It was almost a carbon copy of the manner in which the Knights Templar were dispossessed and discredited, and for a later example, look no further than Charles Stewart Parnell. Though I would have to throw that one in.

Surely the comparison should be between islamic people (albeit with a twisted non-islamic version) prepared to travel across the world fight in a war/be a terrorist, and maybe chop someone's head off; and the clean cut american/british soldiers/drone operators/civil servant/minister who are following their society's rules to the letter, who knowingly take actions that result in many tens/hundreds/thousands of people dying horribly, some of them even being decapitated (or just completely disintegrated) by the awful high-tech weapons used. If anything, i'd have thought that the ones who are actually prepared to wield the sword (or bayonet) and do the killing face to face are a smidgen less evil than the ones who never see the blood and live in a comforatable illusory world we're they are saving the world.
A death is a death, but in numerical terms the handful of islamic nutters in operation around the world (arguably working for us anyway) are a mote compared the entire wooden cathedral of evil that 'our side' has accumulated in its eye, even over the last 50 years.

Is it just me or does all of this anti-Corbyn warnings coming from Tony Blair make Corbyn seem even more desirable?
I'm not sure if his policies will bode well for the economy.. but what is the economy? Bull crap.
Who's really noticed any difference or felt any better off by this growth? I know hundreds, thousands of people have severely felt the negative (my gf being one - universal credit - designed to fuck people over)
We're slaves to the central banking system and until we fuck that off then all governments along with most people will be in a state of perpetual debt..
