nah he's not coming back, he didn't renew his contract. D&D were planning on killing him off for a while.

having read all the books, i have a strong feeling that jon snow is a piece of the puzzle who fits in right at the end and answers a lot of questions. if that's not the case, then i've had it wrong for a while. if that' s right, it's hard to imagine how the show is going to be able to navigate such a huge departure (from the book)...

No I have not. I have them though, I plan on reading them sometime in the near future. I thought the directors were kind of changing the plot up a bit though. I see your point though having not read the books, I am clueless to these resolutions Jon Snow plays a key part in.

care to elaborate? (spoiler tags)

Hmm

Spoiler maybe?

NSFW:
Haven't read the books, but i remember a theory going around that Snow was of Targaryen blood, the son of Rhaegar and brother of Daenarys... born after Rhaegar "kidnapped" Ned's sister.. After the whole incident, Robert Baratheon swore to hunt down all Targaryen's and kill them, as Snow was Ned's nephew by blood.. Ned protected him and claimed him as his bastard son. - Not sure how this would tie into him been essential for the story.. but to me it suggest's his role is much bigger?

Ill let the people who've actually read the books clarify though...

Well, I think D&D, correctly think that he's this hero figure that has fucked up. As a result of his actions he's killed off. Sam and Jon sort of realize I think in the last episode, that this is the end. It sounds like the next book will introduce new characters or something. Or focus on different stories. I can understand the expectation in Fantasy that the hero has a victory of sorts, but GRR is famous for stomping on those expectations.

same. which is why i think he can't be dead. the amount of work that would have to be done to resolve all these major issues that jon has a part in would be astronomical. like 9 seasons worth of bullshit. or - look the white walkers have come down and everyone dies the end. which would be lost level shitstorm of an ending. christ i'd be so fucking furious at that man if that's the ending.

spoilers/fan theories on why jon snow can't die

NSFW:
the prince who will be promised/melisandre's snow through the flames. the foreshadowing is strong as shit with this one, especially in book five. melisandre's prophecy is literally being played out as the giant cries and jon snow is bleeding everywhere. another thing that fucking bothers me in the show. melisandre has REAL POWER. like it's not just some bullshit, and we've seen it ACTUALLY WORK and bring people back to life. there is literally NO REASON as to why this will not work. none whatsoever.

three heads of the dragon/jon snow's mother/secret targaryen (r+l = j) - is this canon yet?

the other stark siblings, especially the one running around with theon right now. assuming stannis is dead (which i don't assume), where else are our lost stark children going to go but their brave bastard brother on the wall?

also basically everything with stannis storyline. what the fuck>???? jon snow is very important to how this gets resolved/not resolved/winterfell is dealt with

jon snow is too important to how the books must end for him to die or maybe d&d don't care and they'll just kill off everyone and we're left with nothing but some white zombies. i can't wait to see how everyone freaks out when they kill off dany.

I read that he was caught filming for game of thrones aready, that its a big publicity stunt to bring hype to season 6.
Season 5 was just a bunch of gimmicks, which is so sad considering they had so much to work with.
I hate those retarded unibrow sand snakes, if they're back for season 6 and John Snow isn't, I'm done with the show.

This is the most compelling argument for child immolation I've ever heard.
Well I just think not enough kids are burned to death. After all, the Lord of Light compels us.

We do have [SPOIL]Lady Stoneheart[/SPOIL], so maybe ...

I also enjoyed it less than other seasons, but still did enjoy it quite a lot. I think the main difference is that in other seasons the major events were a bit more spaced out, this season felt like 7 episodes of not a whole hell of a lot happening and then three episodes that just kept getting more hectic.

They should have spread out some of the character deaths and development with the white walkers throughout the season more and I think it would have been paced better.
