The EADD old farts nostalgia thread!

Spokey dokeys and pegging a playing card near your back wheel vrooooom :)

L0ved the plating card and one of mums wooden clothes pegs, the card was probably from an old Top Trumps set.

I recall the market getting flooded with those little yellow siren shaped horns that had a selection of sound effects ( selection being 3), qwhy I thought this was good I dont know but a had one on my Tamohawk and was the very image of Dennnis Hopper in easy rider :D

I've got an r2d2 soap from the original release date of first film... i think. Please tell me it's priceless! Or does lucas need to die first?

copyright 1977 it says on back.

Yeah that's right. Worth it's weight in gold no doubt. 8)

i remember buying the first edition of 2000 a.d.

god only knows what a mint copy of that would be worth these days...

alasdair

I found a real, still in the cellophane copy of Win95 the other day, the CD + 1 floppy version ( not the original 13 floppy one), it must have come to me via a machine purchased for a family member or something as I've never paid for a piece of MS software in my life.

I have a really old Toshiba laptop up there that I suspect is what it came with, I can see this package being worth 3 or 4 pounds in the next decade or so.

I think you're being wildly optimistic with that valuation Allein. More chance of my refurbished zx spectrums being worth something.

Well at least I know for sure MS OSs do actually exist in 'official' form, some people, allegedly pay quite significant sums of real money for them.

I should have held onto my Video Genie :-

I've no idea what happened to my Spectrum or my Atari console, sold for tuppence or binned in some forgotten clearout, I try to not accumulate to much 'old stuff in boxes that is of no use to me or anyone else' My computer graveyard is quite small these days, the stuff has become so cheap and plentiful is supply both new and second hand I donlt really need to be cobbling stuff together anymore.

Recently I have been a little nostalgic for cough medicine that actually works (not for me, kids and partner) all the stuff you get these days is little better than hot water with honey and lemon, they need proper drugs in them ....for the good of mankind ;)

You can still just about buy "original" (i.e., not "non-drowsy", guaifenesin-based) Benylin Chesty Cough syrup, packing 14 mg. of diphenhydramine per 5 ml. I'm not going to say where from, though. Got to let you have some fun yourselves .....

I might actually get some in, I really meant what is generally available in normal pharmacy. I havent had a cough in years but Mrs A does tend to get a a persistent dry one from time to time and if the kids get one they do tend to go on and on, it's clear real medication is needed to suppress the cough to stop the cycle. OTC in general is shite in the UK and Mexico is such a long drive :)

Something Sadie said in another thread got me thinking - we just don't seem to get decent electrical storms in this country anymore. In the last 30 years only 2 good storms stand out in my mind, but when I was a kid they seemed much more common - it was sitting watching the lightning from my porch as an 8 year old that gave me my love of all things cosmic...

Do any other of you immature old farts still have any of your own old toys kicking about?

I'm only holding onto these so I can pass them onto future, deserving, grandchildren. Honestly. :p

Heh,

My kids have the wooden magnet trains. But they aren't 100 years old like yours;) Much the same though I play with them more than the kids, especially after a little THC. . .

i'm guessing the little red plastic missiles from the esprit are long gone?

Unfortunately, yes. I was going to ask if anyone had any spare ones? I think I still have one in my mucous membranes somewhere.

Maybe that'll give a pathologist something to ponder in the future. ;)

And p.s. fuck you Jude; the train set's only... 90 years old. :D

I've got a case full of matchbox cars that were being given away with so many gallons of petrol in the late 60s /early 70s (my dad worked in a garage ;) ). I did have a large gauge hornby clockwork train set as well, but my capitalist pig of an older brother made off with that yonks ago when he realised what it was worth (though to be fair, it was originally his anyway). More recently I had to chuck out my huge scalextric set and loads of original Meccano because they were beyond repair having spent 40 odd years in a damp outhouse :(

I've still got a load of old annuals though - beano, dandy, whizzer & chips, action, Rupert the bear, and others.
