Just putting it out there Vurtual, not saying I agree with it. We are in a very tiny minority on this board and even more so in the country. I just think it's credible to give good people ideas to work with while we wait the inevitable age and then some for the land of milk and anarcho-syndicalist* honey.

*other forms of anarchism are available, terms and conditions apply

Just seen Vic Galloway being interviewed on the daily politics, any views on the Respect party? Didny even know they existed.
 
I remember them from the 2005 election, but I thought they'd faded into the background amidst internicine ideological squabbling. Which makes them a genuine leftist organisation if ever there was one.
 
In 2012 Galloway regained Bradford West from Labour in a by-election with a 10000+ majority. He is expected to win again.

that was definately not the highpoint of his career. He is a bit crazy and winds people up but I generally I agree with quite a lot of his opinions.

I wasn't directing at you, just a cry of exasperation. I realise my anarchist views aren't going to win x-factor, which is why i tend to focus on the much more realistic political goal of social democracy when arguing with non-anarchists (it's not even not capitalism for fuck's sake). The tragedy is that even mild social democracy is seen as loony left in the face of the neoliberal capture of the media/politics. Miliband sort of makes social democrat noises and vague hints of keynesianism, but nothing substantial like nationalising anything (even the bloody trains, which even the majority of conservative voters agree with); in fact he leaves exactly enough wiggle-room to actually stay neoliberal.

I get jones' argument that if even right-wing labour as is can't get in, what hope of a more left wing labour party (plus the danger of full re-blair-isation) and this does worry me - but i see the opposite case too: if miliband gets in and is just like Hollande, that will discredit the 'left' in people's eyes just as much.

Bottom line i end up back where i started - i don't put much hope in voting as currently configured (except in scotland atm). The only hope is for us to disentangle ourselves from the grip of the media, as scotland has started to. There's no reason the peaceful political revolution that has happened there can't spread and infect the rest of the uk (once it's done the rest of scotland) - this sort of uncontrolled organic bottom up change is what i have hope in as an anarchist (whether expressed in the ballot box or not).

That bit right there is something that Owen Jones talks about at length in that book (which I should now get royalties for). ;) It's fucking amazing how far our collective mentalities have been nurtured and manipulated by the media since Thatcher's days. What used to be normal and enlightened thinking is now "out there" and dismissed as radical.

I'd also vote for Vurtual, but I think he's in a different sheep-shagging constituency.

The complete absence of anything even approaching information in regards to the only realistic opposition to the Tory cunt squatting over my constituency is really starting to grate on me in a big way. Was more or less persuaded to just accept that the situation is shit so may as well opt for the slightly less shitty option but the sheer vacuousness and cynicism is becoming too much for me to bear even with a big ol' clothespeg firmly clasping my poor assualted passages. Leaning more towards "heart" due to "head" being turned to mush by complete absence of information. I may not be the brightest star in the fundament but the local campaig is an outright insult to even my shonky synapses :\

Anyone with enough of a cynical streak in 'em. He's gotten so much public grief (from media, politicians, "public" (hard to make much sense of "public" given the way "they" tend to just parrot whatever chosen snippets of reality their chosen media outlet chooses to surround them in to buffer against having to form actual opinions of their own)). Ultimately he's a publicity whore. I'm very fond of much of what he says and does so am disappointed he has bowed to criticism - especially when it is so utterly unfounded - but perhaps not surprised about it. If I were being extremely cynical I may be minded to think that his £20 tome on his supposedly "revolutionary" beliefs has since been shunted down to the "3 for £10" buckets (at best). Alternatively, it'll be out in paberback soon so he could use the publicity.... Genuinely disappointed in him is all I can say :\
 
I wouldn't vote for me cos i know me (but thanks i think). Lets all vote for each other (man).

Also dissappointed in brand - i suspect owen jones and johann hari (who he hangs with apparently) bent his ear and persuaded him into it. Be fair though - he gave the profits from that book to his collective cafe wotsit (undoubtedly got some tasty 'expenses' but nonetheless...)

Interesting charts in the independent showing how fucked FPTP is - greens have about 5% of the vote but could have 1 mp, while snp have about 4% (uk-wide) and could have 40-50 mps. As you said this is currently working in our favour for a change rather than locking us into two party politics, so PR might start to get some attention (probably not as it's a bit too democratic) - look at the scary amount of kippers though. (btw the independent just came out as pro tory/libdem - not surprising when you find out the russian oligarch owner is mates with cameron (also explains all the rabid anti-russian/putin shit they print))
