Gibberings CXCIV: Come on, mods. Let's go wild with this.

Nah, it was time for me to find something else anyway. Ten years is too long. This place isn't doing all that great financially, and promotion opportunities are a farce, so leaving this place (on my own terms) would do me good.

It's difficult to see how they can sack me without kickstarting an ugly process, so their alternative is to either make my life miserable or come to an agreement.

Good luck with that. Ten years is a long time to work somewhere. I've tended to do between three and four years in each role I've worked at fulltime.

Just pushing up on year one down in this job now.

Today at work I managed to hit myself in the shin with a sledgehammer while showing the staff "how it's done" and witnessed one of my mechanics drop an oxy-acyteline torch in panic when it burped flame at the base and sprint to turn off the gas at the tank while I stooped behind a bulldozer blade just in case:D

Better than last week. In work, with no indication of when my disciplinary / firing squad meeting will be, so it's a weird kind of limbo. Maybe it was forgotten when I left a stack of info on employers' obligations under the DDA, but to be honest I'd rather know for certain, then press for voluntary redundancy, a payoff from ten years' service and a good reference.

Ehhh... what now? I feel like I've missed something. What happened?

Sammy you been in touch with mdb lately? He may need a friend, some support. He's just E-mailed me. I don't want to say more than that on here just that i know you two are good friends.

Right that's exercise nu 2 done, some gardening n walking. Operation 'fight the flab' is officially kicking ass!

Ah, long story, but basically a guy who has it in for me at work got a big promotion, and leaned on a company director to get rid of me over a couple of stupid human errors.

The fact that the workplace has done nothing to accommodate my bipolar disorder would appear to be my ace in the hole, but it's not even been mentioned so far today. Basically, I was informed just before going to Cork, so quickly printed off information relating to dismissals and the Disability Discrimination Act and took a few days off sick (which I needed) when I got back to Manchester.

My boss didn't even look at me this morning, let alone set a date for a meeting, but we'll see.

I should contact him really. Thanks for the heads-up. There are other people I should contact too, but I've been crap at it lately. Hope he's not in too bad a state.

That sucks, Sammy. Work places suck when it comes to disability. If they want rid of you cause of it they find other stuff. I had that done to me in my first job n in another there was a right jealous bitch who did everything to get rid of me.

I was given a video magnifier (which is easier for magnifying stuff I needed to type; along with other stuff fromAccess to Work, to aid me to do the job. H had diabetes n had a period where her vision had gone bad (before I was employed there) n so she had to take sick leave because she knew nothing of this.

She was petty n relentless in her quest to get rid of me but I turned the tables on her. I found a table she'd made on me showing all my mistakes n errors. I knew a colleague who didn't like her so accidently got upset about all this, told her not to tell n of course she was going to tell n H got a verbal warning

Made that time when I gave her a letter n she deliberately found a spelling error to have me told off, worth it.

You learn how to be manipulative n backstabbing after working in an office awhile. If you can't beat um join um n all that.

Thing is, they've completely failed to implement reasonable adjustments, or even acknowledge bipolar as a disability, which effectively means they've discriminated by default. They now know this, hence the fact I've not had my cards already.

We'll see.

Looks like you could be calling the shots here Sammy, any kind of disability in the workplace gives you the upper hand these days - unless its drug addiction of course.

My sister in law was fired from the job she'd had for less than 6 months for being a snotty, awkward, useless bitch. However, she happens to have MS, so she played the 'discrimination' card and although not reinstated, she got a several thousand pound payout - regardless of the fact that she really is a snotty, awkward, useless bitch - which has fuck all to do with her MS, that's just how she is.

I, on the other hand, got sacked after 10 years faithful (ish) service for having the audacity to turn up for work completely off my tits on phenazepam, heroin, methadone, alcohol, amphetamine and cannabis... What the fuck is the world coming to?... ;)

hahaha i know for fuck sake man that's criminal

That's disgusting. I'm shocked in the 21 century.

Evey

A lot of smaller / more traditional companies don't. It's a scandal, sure.

To be fair, we have a profoundly deaf guy working here, and he seems to be treated well. What they don't realise is that not making reasonable adjustments and judging me by non-disabled standards is the same as asking the deaf guy to give them an account of the last five songs on the radio. It's just not on.

Now that's discrimination. :D

It bloody is mate! Take phenazepam out of the equation and add crack, that was pretty much my default state over that decade. But I could still do my job 10 times better than my bloody sister in law could do hers... And did I get a bleedin payout? Did I bugger! Not that I'm bitter or owt...
