Benzo tolerance, have a few questions

I'm not exactly sure how your body handles this. I know with weed you can take a few weeks off and be back at a clean slate, but does the same concept work with benzos? I mostly take Klonopin.

I don't take it daily, I normally save it for the weekend and take 4-6mg to get a good "high" going. I usually do this whenever I'm with friends so it would be safe to assume that I'm on anywhere from 6-12mg of Klonopin in a 48 hour period, 12 at maximum in my experience. The weekend I'm usually clean unless I have a particularly stressful day and every so often I put it away for a week or two and forget I even have them.

Point is, at what point does a tolerance/addiction develop and is it permanent? Can you lower your tolerance? I hear cold turkey is hellish with benzos but like I said I've taken time off with no withdrawal symptoms so I know I'm not addicted.

If you're just taking them on the weekend, I don't think tolerance will be an issue. That's very irregular usage, as far as benzodiazepenes are concerned.

12 mgs at any one given time is too much though imo, as far as klonopin goes. It becomes kind of a waste at that point.

The 12mg wasn't all at once. I had 2mg rounds and took them throughout. But let me tell you I have no idea how I got home that night and hid everything. I had a half oz of bud and a scale along with a bunch of small bags. Still haven't found the scale though...

Now I have to think like a blacked-out idiot and try and find it before someone else does.

I don't think taking them just on weekends will do much to tolerance because of the long breaks in between. I'm a daily user of klonopin (addicted), and have to say using more than 3-4 times a week you might notice a tolerance starting to develop, along with more anxiety/sleep issues when they wear off.

I would say tolerance snuck up on me right around when I started taking them daily for a few weeks.

The thing with reducing tolerance to benzos (particularly if you're an addicted daily user) is it's extremely unwise (and dangerous, depending on tolerance and amount of time used) to just take a drug holiday for a few days/weeks to minimize it. Physical withdrawal is extremely unpleasant.

Best way to avoid benzo tolerance is to never gain one in the first place. 1-2 times a week max.

You'll know when you're addicted to benzos. It's a road no one should have to face...

It will take weeks or months of daily usage to build up tolerance, maybe less if you have a history of alcohol abuse/addiction in recent years. Benzos are cross-tolerant with alcohol, Z-drugs (zolpidem, zopiclone), barbiturates, GHB and maybe other drugs that strongly interacts with GABA neurotransmitter, so any use of these will boost your tolerance to all of them to various degrees. If you compare to weed, the tolerance wears off slower on benzos, but the withdrawal symptoms are vaguely similar (though I never felt any kind of psychotic mood while on weed withdrawal, not the same for benzos).

I had only a moderate addiction, but this experience changed my perception regarding useful and useless drugs and I became much less interested in downers, including alcohol.

Withdrawals from Weed, and withdrawal from Benzos is incomparable.

Since, you are not taking them on a daily basis, I think it would be very unlikely for u to experience any withdrawals. But you can become addicted very easily at any time. The amount u take on the weekends( up to 12mg ) is a lot though, especially if u mix them with alcohol. It can be very dangerous..be safe :)
