Spotify are offering three months of premium for only 99p at the moment. The offer apparently ends on the 23rd January.

Kate found this on moneysavingexpert.com. There doesn't appear to be any catch. Sign up, pay 99p, cancel it straight away, and you have three months access to the lot, in high quality with no adverts.

I've banged on about it before in the music thread, so bear with me. Using Spotify has transformed our appreciation of music and we've found so much new stuff via its weirdly all-knowing mind.

Obviously if you download the mobile apps, it'll work on them too.

Give it a go. :)

Is it for first time members only? I cancelled my premium when I moved back to the sticks because the 3G connection just isn't reliable enough to stream when I'm on the go.

Screenshot of the Linux-based client. I'm sure the Windows one is cool too.

I think it might be for first time premium users. You could try a different card (yer maw's) and username probably.

I might have a look into it... good way for listening to new albums. Cheers!

*edit*

The windows one is identical. Have it on all the time at work, creating radio from a track you just played that you like can send you off on a magical journey of discovering similar new bands for hours :)

I've been paying £9.99 a month for about 3 years now, mostly to be able to use the mobile app, I don't find the ads on the free version too offensive though, nothing so bad as local commercial radio stations for sure. Nice to know I'm being rewarded for my loyalty by not getting 3 months for 99p though, thanks Spotify! :p

I just subscribed and cancelled, I can confirm it's only 99p with no commitment past the 3 months:

Thanks for using Spotify Premium - we'll miss you. We've cancelled your subscription and it expires on 2015-04-11. After that, your account will automatically switch to Spotify Free.

Nice one. I know we can all have whatever we want, whenever we want, from youtube and torrents etc., but the Artificial Intelligence of the Spotify player is amazing.

Let's say you like an artist. Search for that artist and click on their name. Then click on the three little dots ... and select "Start Artist Radio". It will then randomly play you stuff by that artist and artists like them. You will discover links and influences you maybe didn't realise, which will make you explore further. Sometimes it gets it wrong, and you can click the "up" or "down" buttons to improve the software's understanding of you. The more you use it, the better it gets.

IMPORTANT POINT

One more thing: if you've downloaded and installed the Spotify Player (whether it's Windows or Linux or maybe even a mobile version), go into the preferences and manually select "High Quality Streaming". It doesn't do that automatically when you upgrade to premium.

Mobile version has: Normal Quality, High Quality or Extreme Quality.

shit. this doesnt work in my country.
and here i was ready to throw CASH MONEY towards the legal music industry

and then they blame us for piracy and shit

What is it? Never heard of it before ! Is it a digital radio supplier ? (yes I used google) still a bit clueless

It is to music, what Netflix is to film. Only its much better at working out what you might like.

Yeah that was actually a shit analogy because Spotify has nearly everything, but Netflix has bugger all.

There isn't enough 90s happy hardcore on Spotify imo though.

No more takers?

We started off a Bob Dylan "artist station" and have been all over the place tonight. Fantastic stuff.

Final BUMP!

This offer runs out tomorrow. For those of you rich enough to spare 99p, you might like it.

Chat has proved that there's no catch:

I don't know what Netflix is either - Yeah I can google it and pretend I knew all the time. Never used it though (honestly). If Spotify is like it, I probably don't need it.

I'm clueless on these things but, why do people still buy content?

Actually - just googled Netflix and (surprise) is unavailable. At least its not banned (insert Big Brother WARNING message).

The greatest thing about Spotify for me was using it to ruin my ex's last.fm profile by filling it with 'misogynist' music, much to the chagrin of her feminist buddies. :D

Yes, I'm aware that's puerile but it was only semi-deliberate and very, very funny to see Whitehouse as one of her 'favourite' artists.
