Gibberings CLXXXIV - I settled for HRing on EADD

Ahh look at the wee baby Seamus!

hah.

I'm not sure - only if you want to be. I recommend it but appreciate its not for everyone!

That's marriage not laundering cats btw :D

Yes, I learnt the love of smoking cigs again in Liguria recently, bloody place. Apart from shagging, eating and drinking it came in as a 4th pursuit rather nicely =D

You back home now Don?

I want to settle down but I'm in no rush to get married, unless I know they're an angel.

I don't think about the fegs much anymore but do get tempted sometimes. It's only been five months so still very early days. I'd love to get away to the sun as I haven't left these isles in 11 years. Perhaps some action, rather than just greeting about it, would help :)

If you mean back home from Glasgow - aye I only lasted a few months there lol. I was living in Belfast for a few years, doing fraud prevention for a certain banking group but have just moved back to the sticks. With the constant scandals surrounding my employer and how we treated our customers, I had to quit. It's not nice working for immoral institutions (maybe felix doesn't agree :p)

:D

Looking forward to the new season?

Standard procedure to give people IV paracetamol. It's really good with helping regulate body temp so it's used really commonly in hospitals.

This. I've had it plenty of times, when I was fighting infection in hospital, as soon as my temp went up, another bag of paracetamol went up. It's actually a pretty effective painkiller this way too.

Afternoon all,

Had a productive day today... been in town to do some things that needed done, got a couple of CDs exchanging another I already had & even got some laundry done. Go me! :D

I'm off away to St. Andrews for a week or so tomorrow, so looking forward to that break. Especially after all the noise of my niece & nephew being up... god, was I really that bad as a toddler too? :p

Man, that's where I've been going wrong all these years... I thought you were just supposed to swallow the pills... ;)

Alright, it's an even more effective painkiller this way - which is stating the obvious I guess. :D

The reason I added it is because people are often quick to dismiss paracetamol as useless, but having had the opportunity to test a few different painkillers on some actual pain recently, I reckon it's alright. :)

I have a lot of love for paracetamol and also find it pretty relaxing. Sends me to sleep quite often, it does.

See Josh, this is why you're no longer an EADD mod. Endorsing paracetamol for pain? Are you mad?

People should be getting some heroin inside them For any ailment, major or minor. Fucking heroin, yeah? ;)

Really? I wish I knew that, but worry about my liver and paracetamol. We've had a flu and I've been so cautious about taking it to reduce temperatures.

Saying that we do CWE often 8)

Shush you. That's not harm reduction :p

True, yeah.. though I don't worry about my liver too much as I don't do much to harm the thing.. and it's only a once a month habit anyway. Codeine doesn't do much for me pain-wise, sadly. I suppose there's always heroin, but that seems like overkill. ;)

How much do you take for that? I find 1000mg is rather useless apart for the temperature stuff unless combined with Ibuprofen, now that is a great combination for pain relief.

I usually keep some Codeine + Paracetamol tabs around for pain relief mind, or other more nefarious uses. :D

Of course, I didn't say it was the best painkiller, just that it was alright.

Fentanyl ftw as far as I'm concerned ;)

Stop teasing us Josh :px

Before, during and after surgery it'll be in combo with midazolam. Then afterwards I'll have a magic green button to do it myself.

Tbh though, I've got such a bad needle / medical phobia, that the thought of those drugs is about the only thing g that'll get me through the hospital doors in three weeks time... :(

Since it's you I'll let you off ;)

When's the big surgery day? I know you don't like posting about it but I like to know how you are <3

Was on fentanyl for 8 months....didn't like it (stupid patches)

fent and midazolam \re usually just for sedation when your having a local. For a general it's sodium pentathol to knock you out then one of a various number of inhaled drugs to keep you down.

Is you op going to be with a local or a general?.....You know if you've got a proper needle phobia you can ask for some tetracain cream or something to numb the site when they insert the canula (you won't feel a thing)......sorry your not well :(

How did you end up on all the painkillers Englandgz74? I'm sure you've already mentioned it here somewhere but i have the memory of a sieve

General, I'm having my failed j-pouch excised and a permanent ileostomy, by laparotomy. Panproctocolectomy is possibly the correct medical term for it? I've already had five surgeries in the last 2 years, starting with a subtotal colectomy and then two to set up the pouch and reverse the ileostomy. I recently had two EUAs to try to sort out infections, abscesses and fistulae galore. Pretty sure it's been fent / midaz before every one (although I was in critical condition before the subtotal, toxic Megacolon which perforated, so I was doing all I could to stay conscious), then the big ole syringe of milky white propofol to finish the job. They use the fent / midaz combo for scopes etc though, so I'm aware of its use as sedation / local prep.

No problem talking about it, just a while back I was discussing it and another member laid into me for being a broken record. "We get it, you're sick. Get over it" or words to that effect, so since then I've tried to avoid it, which is tough because there's really nothing else in my life right now. That's why I said I was going to bookmark that long post with all the info on it, to save repeating myself. Only I didn't and now I can't be bothered to find it heh. ;)

Anyway, the op is Thursday 15th, at 7.30am. I'm the main event on my surgeon's list for that day (4 or 5hr op), so I'll be in first. Which us good news because I won't have long to sit in the admissions ward slowly having a breakdown... :p
