Its a combination of a couple of things really, reactive arthritis when I was in my early 20s, degenerative disk disease and had a tumour removed from over my spine a couple of years ago. Plus years of powerlifting have left my joints even more fucked.

Occupational health have no idea its as bad as it is though.....if they did they'd probably take me off the road. I just tell them its fine and make no mention of the shit loads of pills I take. I think I could probably get by on a lot less TBH but like I say after this many years your talking them cos your dependent on them as well so things get somewhat blurred.

I did wonder how you got on with your job and the meds you're on.. im sure it doesnt effect your job at all as you've tolerance, the powers that be dont quite see it that way though do they.

If anything, the drugs that i take ( daily ) ie smack actually help me work, keeps me motivated etc... Years back when i worked on a bar and my habit was huge i got promoted to bar manager, i was 9 stone ringing wet, looked like id been dug up amd had my hand in the till most of the time... but i was a fuckin ace bar man.. weird..

Do they not make you have random drug screening in the NHS? I would of thought theyd of been all over that?

Im always one piss away from the sack which kinda sucks but what am i meant to do... give up drugs 8):D

Its not so much that mate as the meds are for legitimate reason and they wouldn't take you off the road just because your prescribed opiates since as long as your fit to drive they can't....its more if they knew the extent of my damaged back that they would act as it would be a risk to them getting sued if they allow me to do lifting etc. With a bad back. If your prescribed opiates you can still work as long as it doesn't affect your work performance and your not fucked up or anything. As for drug tests its a misconception that we get tested.....we don't. Itvwouod cost too much to randomly test everyone and what reason would they have to test for really? Just cos we have access to CDs they can't immediately assume people would take them. I guess the only time you might be tested is if you were accused of stealing morphine or something and you insisted that they test yyou as part of a legal defence.

Plus as I'm sure you know....the effect a pain killing dose of opiates has on a persons alertness and consciousness after 18 years is very different to the effects of a recreational dose on a naive user.

Anyway...I want off cos I'm just sick of it basically :-(......its getting me down man...

Why not start a taper? and get down to a level where your pain is covered but your not taking so much just because of habit/tollerance- presumably you wear a back brace/corset thingy to help?

i think getting on the jollop would save me a lot of shitty days and probs money, but i dont think you can work with cd's if on mmt and i couldnt make daily pickups no way hozay. so i just have to suffer sometimes..

Just seems strange that a telesales company feels the need to test employees for drugs when the worst thing that could happen is they fall asleep on the phone or start telling the fella on the end of the line that they love them and feel they've a real connection

I know of some people who had their driving licences revoked because of methadone scripts, it was one of the reasons i walked away from the treatment services as it had the potential to really fuck my life up work wise and at home with my kids due to the social getting involved. I understand the need for it as some people are utter cunts and neglect their kids, ive come close to phoning the social on people i know because of the conditions children were being raised.

Just like yourself, i want out. Heroin is just a medicine to me, only i self prescribe. Its making me sicker though, not better

the nhs doesn't test employees, the police dont drug test their officers, im sure that only the army that do random drug testing as standard when it comes to state or civil employed personel. of course you may be asked to engage with an occupational health service if there are concerns about you, as i found out while turning up to my staff nurses job every day loooking like a junklover.

private companies are getting more and more interested in workplace testing , copying american companies, as even recreational drug users may have a slight reduction in their productivity, and boy they dont like anything that might fuck with their monies

A lot of people are surprised when u tell them that paramedics, doctors, nurses etc don't get tested. The only place I've ever had to submit to testing was working for a pharmaceutical company years and years ago (my first ever job). Like u say its mostly private companies and even then its often used as an excuse to get rid of problem employees more than a genuine concern for people using drugs.

We did have a paramedic who was caught shooting up in the toilets at headquarters once but he had a host of issues of which drug use at work was only one.......what a fucking loser he was.....was in trouble for beating up his missus last I heard.......total and utter cunt by all accounts.

for years I worked as an FLT driver and they test you because of using heavy equipment-or so they say.
I was also a union rep at the same time so saw clearly that if they want rid of someone,they will always find a way

ALSO the doc at the prison wrote to the DVLA telling them that I should not be allowed to drive because of all the meds i was on.
I was furious cos you expect to be honest with your doc and have their duty to not disclose any info about you
but they have a 'caldicot advisor' who said it was ok for him to inform them

If you work full time you have a good chance of getting Meth' on a weekly pick up. I'm lucky enough that my GP prescribes Meth' so I didn't have to go through the rehab to get my script and I was on it within 2 weeks of putting in my Heroin positive sample. I've heard of people waiting 6 weeks for a script when going through the rehab, what the fuck do they expect you to do until then? She started me off on twice weekly pick ups [Wednesday and Saturday] but once I started giving Heroin free samples she put me on once a week pick up.

Before I got my script I always kept a stock pile of emergency Meth', if you are stuck for a seller, kicking about a busy chemist in your town centre early on a Saturday morning is a good place to be if you are looking for some juice, there's always someone that will part with it. You might have to pay a little extra sometimes, like a tenner for 70 or 80 mls.

I know where not meant to talk about sourcing but if you did go down that route I would try to make sure it comes literally straight from the chemist as I can't think of many things easier to cut than liquid meth....and as long as they didn't go daft it would be undetectable......rather that or get the tablets but as far as I know drug and alcohol places rarely if ever prescribe them since they're so easy to divert. Only chronic pain patients or those receiving substitute prescribing from a private doctor get tablets as far as I'm aware.....although I have heard of people being given tablets as a short term measure if they were going on holiday or something and didn't want to carry litres of green shite in their suitcases.

Have you never tried loperamide and grapefruit juice/tonic water?.....I was highly sceptical at first but after running out early I few weeks ago I gave it a try and it really worked......only problem was that with my stupid tolerance I needed a fucking barrel full of them.....but it did knock all WD symptoms completely on the head.. You can then do a lope taper or something.....just a thought

Just out of interest, are you able to hold down a full time job whilst using? This isn't aimed at anyone in particular just in general. Its hard for me with just my painkiller use age (have to take bare minimum during the day and suffer the pain cos make me to drowsey then can take more after work but affects the quality of my sleep). And that's without worrying about paying for it or acquiring it or getting arrested or whatever. Must be a nightmare.

I've been thinking long and hard about trying to get off opiates all together And manage my pain other ways but how the fuck would I even Start off 180mg methadone pills?....even though its for a legit medical condition I'm probably the most heavily addicted person on here. Just goes to show that the word "legal" is just a matter of perspective.

While as I say I take bare minimum during the day so I'd doesn't affect my job I'm just fucking sick of it TBH. Sorry for the rant but as you can probably appreciate there not many I can discuss this with in the real world

i have worked full time for years, and its a fukin nightmare sometimes, cramps and about shitting yourself by late afternoon. But its doable if you are determined though i will say itt is very hard and some days are defo better/worse than others

I imagine it depends on the job as well to some extent. I mean a physical job is going to be a lot more difficult in the sense that you won't have the energy but a desk based job would also be really hard in the the whole can't get comfortable or sit still symptoms would be far worse.

Fucking hell even laying in bed is awfull during withdrawals let alone trying to do any sort of work.

when I was working f/t,I'd have to get up an hour early to have a good smoke before work and without falling back to sleep.then i would be fine until I got home.If you work an 8 hour shift,you should quite easily be able to make it through the day on just a small smoke.12 hour shifts and i was very keen to get home as quickly as possible.

If you are working full time and get a decent wage i would go private -for me it's 'only' £100 p/m with one pick up plus the script which in my case is 168 tabs of phyceptone and 21 of valium £19.80....so its still only 30 quid a week or 4 quid a day and when you break it down like that it makes sense.

I caved this morning was gonna wait till sunday but the missis n kids are staying put so went out this morning and got an 1/8th which i will try and eek out till tuesday , probably try and stay on the pills today and tomorrow (already smoked about .3) but its hard having a lump and not using but if i force myself to take the pills then i know theres no point in taking any gear...ah well we'll see - tuesday will be good thats when i can pick up the bell ringing stones and really pukka gear.

Now i'm less headfucked, got on a subby script and feel more or less normal now after a bit of a rough week & looking forward

i dunno how the other people who have been kicked off their scripts cope (is it just leeds or is everywhere have suddenly become cunts with this?) most of the people i know have been put back on daily pickup for meth and for them completely without a script become alot harder to get that lifeline of a few bottle outside boots when you're in need or whatever. Its an insane situation, barely survived the last few months and its been a raw time for nearly everyone i know, gears alright but no money food heat sanity etc . Al wel things seem to be improving all round locally

good luck kronos - im hopefully on for a place at the BAC rehab in Burton, Staffs in the new year. i know you need to start cutting your b/l visits if you really want to get drugs off your brain, but let us know how ur getting on if you can

I did a detox in a local hospital psych unit,and just upped and left as soon as the worst withdrawals kickjed in.I also attempted at my parents house and at a friends house(she's dead straight)down in the middle of nowhere-took me about 5 hours to get back and a LOT of money but had my dealer on standby for when i got back.Another time,the same but in fishguard in far west wales-did a runner just the same.
