Does exercise really do you any Good?

^I do experience the same thing, plus feeling energized after the workout specifically after an hour of cardio.

My husband is having severe anhedonia partially from stopping stims and long term suboxone albeit a very lose dose, but also from being out of work for 3 years and being at home with 2 kids. He is a mechanic and his inspection license expired while he was off, and he is getting that back so he should be able to get a job soon. In the meanwhile, I have him taking vitamin D, L-tyrosine, fish oil and some St. John's Wort. I have the St. John's Wort on board in the hopes it will give him the energy to exercise. He just WON'T DO IT. One excuse after the other. He says walking isn't aerobic enough for him and if he runs he will hurt his knees (has gout). Says he needs a bike. So I will be buying him a bike this week and we will see what the excuse is next. Problem is if the answer doesn't come instantly it isn't good enough. This is hard for him, but hard for us too. I had some issues that exercise has helped me with and I really hope he will soon see how much it can help him. It helps sooo much, with PMDD symptoms. If I don't walk at least 4 times a week, I am a bitch on wheels that time

Wont it just increase your appetite.?:|

this thread should have been closed. are we really supposed to talk about whether physical activity is 'good'? LOL the only times it is not, is when a person is too unhealthy to stand or move. cannot believe everyone posted here on 'is exercise good?'.. for shame!

Indeed... everyone should be aware that we need exercise if we want to stay strong and healthy and increase self confidence, that is without a doubt.

There's not a single thing in the world (correct me if I'm wrong), that provides the human body more benefits than exercise (sexercise included)... For starters, YOU LIVE LONGER.

^to note the importance of exercise to the human body.

IMO exercise is amazing. Once you can motivate yourself to do some and you feel the results in your muscles and your mind it becomes easier and easier. I go to gym to take part in exercise classes between 2 and 4 times a week and I take a couple of days break when I can feel my muscles screaming at me. I love that burn. I've seen results srprisingly fast too, losing a stone in a month and getting my abs back. Couldn't recommend it more.

Of course is does! I'm a gym freak and it's done wonders for me. Just having the extra strength and stamina is amazing..

I will say this tough.. If you train a lot, you'll get an appetite and you may get tired or sleepy sometimes. BUT, if you train hard, it really doesn't matter much what you eat. You're burning all the calories. The junk carbs become a source of energy (which is burned), and the protein and fat builds muscle.

You know bicyclers eat 2000 calorie meals consisting of chocolate cake, steaks, toasted & buttered french bread and all that good stuff :D

I'll say this: stop being a Debbie Downer and hit the gym. Hit it hard... Work hard, play hard, and just Pound it Baby ;)

When i was proper on the fitness i'd feel quite buzzing after, sleep better, more energy through the day

Ime, you still need to eat healthy and the right portions. I was eating a lot and exercising a lot too but did not see a difference until i cut back on junk food.

i found cutting out unhealthy snacks to be a little difficult...

for example, i love to eat potato chips but eventually got in the habit of replacing it (most of the time) with a "crunchy" vegetable... like sliced cucumber or carrots. use salsa as dip, instead of ranch dressing (less calories, still tastes good)

but when i'm drunk i'll instinctively reach for the chips... old habits die hard

also instead of drinking pop or juice, just go for water / tea / cofee. extra 150 calories saved in an average 350 ml portion... might not sound like much but it all adds up.

if you like alcohol, just have it straight up on the rocks instead of mixing it with pop / juice. can use water as chase if you really feel the need to wash it down

if you get into cooking, the desire for junk food falls away on its own for most. I lost any/all desire for crappy foods, it's not even indifference to them i actually dislike junk food. If i'm drunk, i'll be in my kitchen over the stove making some rich snack :)

for liquids, if i want a drink w/ flavor, I put lemon in my water, sometimes a ton of lemon in ice water, it's crazy good!

about alcohol tho, understand that the calories that come w/ it are only a small facet of how it hurts you. For anyone wanting a fantastic understanding of alcohol and how it pertains to training / fitness / health, see the archived thread here (it's in the steroid subforum archives on this site i think), it was posted by sphinx i think, but it's called "alcohol and you" and it's a copy/paste of an old piece by someone from another board (par deus) It's incredible and will make you look at alcohol differently. Read post #3 for the specifics if you don't wanna read the whole article :)

True that. although pretty obvious. i love booze but its brutal stuff, finally managed to cut down massively

i'm in the same boat, but i always oscillate from casual to heavy drinking :\
and it's not obvious, i mean the extent of it really isn't obvious at all. Most ppl only understand a fraction of how alcohol hurts you, it's actually a mindfuck knowing just how bad the shit is (although it kinda clicks, when you consider the shit's basically a solvent that we consume..)

[edit- here's that thread i'd mentioned:

i said 'sphinx' but giza was/is sphinx so yeah.. article was written for a different board by par deus (who's a fucking genius). Posts 1 and 3 are the two halves of the article, posts 2 and 4 are the respective references. Just read post #3 (that^ link puts you right at post#3) if you want the meat of it. It may sound silly, but that page, particularly post#3, is a 'drink less' tool for me, like in the same vein someone will look at cancerous lung jpg's to smoke less. It's hard to read that thread before a friday night, and still drink as much as you otherwise wuold have. ]

its more important to stay in motion rather then excersise 3 times a week. Take the stairs, not the elevator. Walk to the neighborhood store, or cycle downtown. Loose the car (im from Holland so that may be easier for me then in America with their large cities) Dont sit on your ass but get up in go outside after waking up. Have your windows open for fresh air. Eat healthy. Dont do drugs.

I do love excersise but i think an active/healthy lifestyle is much more important for your well being.
