Had my first experience with Fentanyl IV today in an ambulance. i've been faking kidney stones/pain/infection to feed my addiction at the ER. To make it seem more legit, I decided to call an ambulance today instead of having a buddy go with me to say he's driving (Around here, they won't give you pain meds at the hospital IV unless you have someone with you who is driving or you can say is driving).
So the ambulance comes and I'm in "horrible" pain. I rate it a 6/10, and the EMT's were great. This was my first time ever going to the hospital in an ambulance. He asked if I wanted something for the pain and I said yes. He said he'd have to call the hospital and see if they'd order it. He was on the radio and asked to speak with a physician, and explained my situation and other things. He ultimately asked if Fentanyl would be okay, which the doctor responded "Sure." My eyes LIT UP. I have never had this before, yet have heard wonders about it. I asked the EMT about it and asked why he wanted to give me fentanyl. He said "it'd be best for the situation, in my opinion. do you want something else?" I said, "No, ive just never had it before" He said "It's like a cousin of morphine, just it's measured in mics. Im gonna give you 100 mics"
I was kind of shocked since I've read fentanyl is suppossed to only be used in opiate tolerant patients. This EMT had no idea if I was opiate tolerant. I hadn't told him (obviously) that i use opiates frequently. So he put it in through my IV and about 5 minutes later I was high, and I mean HIGH HIGH. I tried to do some research on my phone about how much this was in comparison to morphine, but couldn't find it anywhere.
So first of all, why do you think the EMT decided to use this drug instead of dilladud or morphine? 2nd of all, about how much is 100 mics in relation to morphine IV?
Thanks!
