Of course but you wouldn't leave it to chance would you. Things have been shot out of the air in that region previously at least one helicopter and one plane, albeit at lower altitudes. You have an extra 10,000 feet of breathing room to play with, seems pretty stupid not to use it.

If youre not actually joshing, then it just might possibly be that she told you that she didnt want to go into things on the forum anymore, so you then came in and went into things on the forum (just by mentioning that fact), thereby generating opinions from other people, which is probably exactly what she doesn't want ... and so the cycle continues.

Let her come back without your shepherding her, eh? You'll only put your foot in it whatever you say. Keep it private, it's a private relationship you two kinda have, as soon as it hits the board it's public property to opinionise on.

And re Sam, Raas. I don't think he's ever once admitted he's 'wrong' about anything on the board, all while fingerwagging at others when he got clean and gave up drugs after getting treatment. The most of an admission youll get to excuse his fucked up perspective on lots of matters is that he was being 'ironic' ... or shoddy backtracking at best. There's no point in trying to get an honest answer out of him, he's never been earnest enough to give one, and offsets that by using his faux-depreciation fallback.

1000ft is a big enough margin. Planes can pass over one another with a minimum of 1000ft between them at lower altitudes...

Something interesting I just found:

A pilot for a major European airline who has flown over Ukraine since the conflict began said it was normal practice for airlines to fly over conflict zones. "We would often avoid areas where there is air-to-air conflict, but we flew over Iraq and Afghanistan when the British and US armed forces were deployed there, because only one side was using military jets."

Explaining why airlines fly over conflict zones, where groups might be in possession of ground-to-air missiles, the pilot said: "There will be weapons based on the ground when you are at 30,000 feet, but that is far up in the air. There are not many missile systems that can be so accurate."

no, no... was taking piss over evey fallout as it's renowned for boring the hell out the forum...


Likewise, you shouldn't be giving baiting comments towards Sam... it's just looking for reactions.... your personal opinions should be kept private.
 
Yes but one would assume that any risk assessment would have assumed people in possession of such missile systems could tell the difference between a commercial airliner & a military plane. I don't exactly know the ins and outs of identifying aircraft at 30,000ft but still... It was on a commercial flight path. :|

I don't think that distinction was important to whoever shot the plane down, do you?

What with all the Ukrainian accusations of Russian involvement in airstrikes just a few days ago, it all starts to look dirtier and dirtier.

Meanwhile, Malaysia Airlines' European chief exec defends the choice of route:

Gorter also defended the MH17 route over a warzone. Many other airlines have used the same airspace, he said, and that it had been declared safe.

"It is a tragic incident and could have happened to any of us," Gorter said. But he confirmed that Malaysia Airlines is now avoiding the route.

And Malaysia Airlines' official statement:

MH17’s flight plan was approved by Eurocontrol, who are solely responsible for determining civil aircraft flight paths over European airspace. Eurocontrol is the air navigation service provider for Europe and is governed under ICAO rules.

The route over Ukrainian airspace where the incident occurred is commonly used for Europe to Asia flights. A flight from a different carrier was on the same route at the time of the MH17 incident, as were a number of other flights from other carriers in the days and weeks before. Eurocontrol maintains records of all flights across European airspace, including those across Ukraine.

In April, the International Civil Aviation Organization identified an area over the Crimean peninsula as risky. At no point did MH17 fly into, or request to fly into, this area. At all times, MH17 was in airspace approved by the ICAO.
