Just finished watching Maleficent and I loved the movie! I didn't really expect that it will have a good storyline. Loved the acting and of course, the effects and cinematography.
 
I first saw Jackie Brown back when it was released on vhs and it went, like, way over my head. It wasn't until this blusubreddit came along in my life that I was convinced into giving it another chance; so glad I did - one of Tarantino's best. Better than Django and Inglorious Basterds at least, and those ARE good enough movies imo.

Tbh I thought it was going to be one of those movies where I would expect too much and end up not liking it. I expected a good movie and I wasn't let down. Have you seen the movie?

nope. really am waiting for it to come out on blu-ray. i don't expect all that much. the expectations i do have are very specific. i'll be really bummed if it doesn't meet them.


The New Year

i'm reading reviews on netflix trying to remember this. the negatives complain about the abrupt ending. it does just cut to black. it's not really abrupt. it's very set up. the protagonist reaches the y in the road, and it cuts. i didn't think much of the movie for some other reason. this girl's dad is dying. the movie had to remind me constantly, and only did occasionally. i just didn't give a fuck. her boyfriend or fiancé, the karate guy, was a quality character to dislike. the actress who plays the lead is attractive. she doesn't have any special relationship with the camera. this is a mumblecore/hipster film.


Stuck in Love

way back when, i saw the preview for this. i didn't realize it was that raymond carver movie when i was watching it. the movie is like really bad noah baumbach. almost too stupid to be pretentious. it tries. characters are a family of troubled intellectuals. even though it's a stamped out family drama for aspiring snobs, i didn't mind watching it. jennifer connelly has been alive for a while now. was hard to notice her with the boy's lovely little fiend making appearances. never mind, this isn't the raymond carver movie. that's Everything Must Go, which according to bluelight i haven't seen.
 
Just finished watching Need for Speed, overall liked the movie and the storyline is pretty cool too. I think what I really liked about the story is that it's not the typical the protagonist gets the girl back but it's more of a race to avenge a friend.
 
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

Though pretty unbelievable, I liked it. Looking forward to the third, and probably fourth and fifth...
 
Just finished watching Tammy and it was a funny movie. I'm being a bit biased cause I love Melissa Mcarthy
 
^loved that movie actually specially the steamy sex scene of eva green :D. Can't wait to see her on sin city 2 as ava lord!!!
 
Bringing Out the Dead

this movie is pretty incoherent. it's about trying to accelerate when already burnt out. it's not a particularly plot based film. there is a plot. and it's stupid. i doubt anyone is proud of this film.
 
the zero theorem

i'll watch anything from terry gilliam. this seems like a real personal film from him. fans of his style will definitely enjoy it, like myself. with that being said tho as much as i dig his stye/visuals, characters, i think this isn't his strongest, kinda loses steam midway through so like once you take away the visuals you're not left with much. BUT for some that might be a good thing as it just goes into this wacky-weird head space... heh see it for yourself.

was pretty faded while watching it and it took me far too long to realize i mistook christoph waltz for john malkovich. :?
 
Watching Final Destination 5. Seriously fucked up ways to die. :(

I went on a Cohen Bros kick over the last few days: I got in The Big Lebowski, Raising Arizona (which I'd never seen), their True Grit remake, and No Country for Old Men. In case you were wondering, I left Fargo out 'cos I watched it w/ my family fairly recently. Burn After Reading I didn't get around to, and nao I'm starting to regret that. What am I leaving out?

I didn't really care for Raising Arizona much. No Country is one of my favorites though. The gas station scene with the old man and Chigurh is one of my all time favorite scenes.


Actually I just watched a Coen brothers movie, Inside Llewyn Davis. It was ok. Maybe I'd like it more the second time around. It ended and I was like oh, it's over. Just thought there was going to be more of a main point or plot or something, so watching it again might help.
 
Just watched the new transformers. I feel kind of sick to my stomach now. They went downhill fast after the first one but this one wasn't just bad, it was actually kind of disturbing. Not going to elaborate because I don't want to spoil anything, that is if that's even possible with this movie, but it has to do with collateral damage and general ruthlessness of the "good guys".

There was one scene in particular where I paused the movie and just sat there with my mouth open for a few seconds (for people that watched it, the words "I'm giving you freedom!" should tell you what scene I mean). I should've known better than to watch it but I've seen just about everything else :D that was the worst movie I've watched so far in 2014 I recon

Had a Harrison Ford week last week. Saw two more Jack Ryan movies, Patriot Games (1992) and Clear and Present Danger (1994). Earlier this year I had seen the other Jack Ryan movies (excluding the Jack Ryan movie that came out in 2013). The other ones were The Hunt for Red October (1990) with Alec Baldwin as Jack Ryan and The Sum of All Fears (2002) with Ben Affleck taking over the role.

Red October was the best of those four, then Clear and Present Danger, then Patriot Games and then Sum of All Fears. After that Harrison Ford as Jack Ryan double, I finished the Harrison Ford week with Witness (1985). It was alright. It was sort of neat since I've visited the Amish area of Pennsylvania before. Netflix has been so great with letting me go on mini binges, whether it's for a TV show, a movie series, or seeing a bunch of movies by a particular actor.

This week has been a Jason Statham week since I hadn't seen too many Jason Statham movies. I've seen a few with him in them like Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. The only movies I've seen that were Jason Statham movies were Transporter and Crank. Since he has a bunch on Netflix, I figured I should give them a looksee before forming an opinion on his movies based solely on The Transporter and Crank. Started with Homefront (2013), which co-starred James Franco as the bad guy. Then I watched Safe (2012) and then watched a third, Parker (2013). They were all better than I thought they were going to be. Decent action movies, but nothing new in the way of story lines. Homefront and Safe were decent, but I enjoyed Parker the most. I've enjoyed the majority of heist movies that I've seen and I'd add Parker to that list.
