Hello my name is Chris and this is my first post to bluelight. I’ve been struggling to get off opioids for a few months now and I really want to be done with it. I would like to use this thread as a day to day open journal/discussion with my detox. I think it would help me and hopefully help others who struggle with addiction. Here’s Just a little about me. I’m 29 and over the past 10 years I’ve prolly been sober for about 9 of them. It seems I’m stuck in some kind of cycle with relapse. I’ve had 4.5 years 2 years 1.7 years and 1.8 years clean. Every time I relapse it’s for about 3-5 months and it’s awful. I pick up right where I left off. Blow every dollar I have saved and put myself into a lot of debt. Ruin good relationships. Loose a lot of weight. And a lot of other consequences. Anyway I don’t want to make this very long tonight because I’m not sober yet. Tomorrow morning I’m going to start to take suboxone and I do not want to be on it very long. Maybe 30 days max is my plan. I know I can get away with taking a quarter of a strip in the am and a quarter in the pm and 100% normal. I’ve been smoking around 6-10 30mg roxies a day for the past few months. And tomorrow is going to be my new sobriety date.
ps. i don't know if this is the right place to do something like this on this forum.

Hey Chris and welcome to bl :-)..

If your all good with sharing what your going to detox from people may be able to give you stronger advice.

Why do you think your relapses produce such significant results.

Great stretches of clean time!.. whats leads to the relapses.. after long periods of sobriety I would poke around and see if you found and addressed any possible roots.

"Then I remembered why I started drugs in the first place"

A thought like this can point out a root that needs to be worked through to promote a peaceful emotional state.

You can do this.

Personally I don't consider using buprenorphine as sobriety, but that's just my view. If thinking of it like that helps you move towards no opiates then go for it, and be prepared to take people like me with different opinions in your stride and don't let them knock you back.

Seems you know how to get clean but not how to stay clean, this has been my problem as well, only I have not managed anything like the clean time you have. Any tips or techniques you have would be much appreciated!

How has the switch over gone?

A friendly warning, mate. I did a quick 5 day taper with subs after a 7+ year habit. Maybe longer but thats as far back as I can remember it going. After the subs i had acute symptoms for a few days then went totally clean for 17 days. I just relapsed tonight because i was where I shouldn't have been (wife and kids went out for the day... Freedom is bad for us addicts). Anyway, subs can cause wicked withdrawals, especially after using them for 30+ days. I'm sure you know but as said, friendly warning/reminder.

i got my gaba's and muscle relaxers for the fallout from tonight's relapse. Are the subs prescribed or street? If they are street, maybe see if your Dr can give you gaba's and relaxers (non-narcos! relatively easy to get). Also get some lope from CVS.

It wont be easy by any means but the key is just not taking anything addictive while your body adjusts.

Then again, i just relapsed so who am i to tell you anything.

Good luck!! I wish you all the best and definitely keep us posted on progress.

I have a question on beginning my subs for those that can help.

I am on about 700mg of roxycodone per day. After reading through this forum I learned through Robert to slowly begin my induction at 2mgs an hour until I reach my daily dose, afterwards I will begin a taper.

I am to take my first dose while under mild WD's, 26 on the Cows. My question is am I on to high a dose of Roxy to avoid precipitated withdrawal. Is it ok to start at 700mg as long as I am at 26 or will I still go through percipitated withdrawal. I have read conflicting responses on this some have said you need to be at a much lower dose to avoid them and others say as long as you get a 26 on the Cows then it makes no difference how big your habit is. Please help me.

Want my honest opinion? I would wait till you are in such withdrawal you feel like you cant stand it. As much as that sucks, the subs will work better and believe it or not, you are much better off safe than sorry. I've gone in to precipitated before and it is NO FUN!!! I almost wanted to kill myself. But it's your call. That is one HELL of a habit and you don't want to play with fire.

Have you considered methadone? I'm no expert but i believe 'done is made for habits like yours.

the safest route is consult a physician. Many are uncomfortable with this but they can be lifesavers if we are honest with them.
