it blows my mind the amount of people that dont understand or realize the rights you have as an employee.
 
Yes, working in sales if you have a black eye they will send you home and there is nothing you can do about it.

The only right you have as an employee is to try and not get fired...

Check out the Department Of Labor's website if you feel like reading up on the rules and finding out about some of the many, many rights you have

As far as employee rights, California is one of the worst. We are an At Will Employment state and an employer can fire you at any time for any reason (of course as long as isnt discriminatory, but even if so they can fire you and just use another reason a d its very hard to prove here).

Most states are at will employment unless you are under a specific contract for your job. But just because they "can" fire you for some stupid reason doesn't mean they can do so all willy nilly. If they fire you for a reason that isn't any real sort of reason they are usually still obligated to pay you unemployment money, not to mention that there could be legal action brought against them if it is a seriously fucked up reason. Sending someone home from work causing them to lose wages just because they do not like the look of an injury you unfortunately have (a black eye does not make you unable to safely carry out your job duties) is not an acceptable reason to do so, and in just about every state out there the employee would at least be entitled to compensation for lost wages.

And as far as it being hard to prove otherwise, unless they have documentation on that "other reason" you got fired for (like a history of write-ups for rules you broke or video surveillance catching you in the act of doing something wrong) they really don't have a leg to stand on. Sure they can terminate your employment, but if they want to get away with it for free then they had better have a legitimate reason.
 
Ya, the days of firing people are over. Even if you're stealing from the company you're still more likely to be laid off. It just makes more sense for various reasons for companies to stay out of court.

Went down and visited my grandmom with my mom and my sister, who is also a mom...so many moms. Straight up had me thinking about having a family of my own, hopefully, but I get these negative thoughts like my nut won't be up to snuff.
