Your Favourite Quotes and Sayings

I'd broadly concur but wouldn't delineate quite so sharply - pretentious arseholes categorise absolutely.

Reminds me of

"What if I had said, instead of "We shall fight on the beaches",
"Hostilities will be engaged with our adversary on the coastal perimeter"?" -Winston Churchill

I have had a perfectly wonderful evening, but this wasn't it.
Groucho Marx

From the moment I picked your book up until I laid it down, I was convulsed with laughter. Someday I intend reading it.
Groucho Marx

A black cat crossing your path signifies that the animal is going somewhere.
Groucho Marx

You mean he wanted to go to war with them gays?!? I knew he was a but of a Nazi but that's just wrong.

Actually the guy wasn't homophobic at all. You know the famous quote:

Nancy Astor: “Sir, if you were my husband, I would give you poison.”
Churchill: “If I were your husband I would take it.”

Well it wasn't like that at all. It wasn't a woman called Nancy Astor giving him sass, it was in fact a nancy who said that to him.

Nancy: “Sir, if you were my husband, I would give you poison.”
Churchill: “If I were your husband I would take it.”

But wait there's more. People often cut Churchill's part short whereas in reality he said:

Nancy: “Sir, if you were my husband, I would give you poison.”
Churchill: “If I were your husband I would take it up the bum.”

Bah I hope it is real.

Keeping on the topic of quotes, it's unreal how many famous quotes are completely misquoted or attributed to the wrong person.

The most well known one probably being "Luke, I am your father".

There are a bunch of proverbs that have been misinterpreted as well. "Blood is thicker than water" actually means the opposite of how people use it, the original being “The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb” i.e. blood spilt on the battlefield creates strong bonds than the people you just happen to be related to.

and we all <3 a bit of that.

Aye we do :)

Shame you can't use the acquired knowledge in public without sounding like a dick.

"I have realized that the past and future are real illusions, that they exist in the present - which is what there is and all there is." Alan Watts

“Try to imagine what it will be like to go to sleep and never wake up... now try to imagine what it was like to wake up having never gone to sleep.”
― Alan Wilson Watts

“Things are as they are. Looking out into the universe at night, we make no comparisons between right and wrong stars, nor between well and badly arranged constellations.”
― Alan Wilson Watts

Was going to go with one I was reminded of last night...

"Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away." - Philip K Dick

However, I'm not entirely sure I go along with that - depends what mood I'm in - and whilst double-checking the wording I came across one that I probably agree with more often...

"Nothing is wholly obvious without becoming enigmatic. Reality itself is too obvious to be true." - Jean Baudrillard, in The Perfect Crime

I don't believe that for a second Shambles

I have my dickish moment as much as anybody else but wouldn't say I'm a permadick no.

"Quotation is a serviceable substitute for wit." - Oscar Wildebeest
