Anyone else had a codeine addiction?

That makes sense, wcote. Probably because they are making momey out of people's addiction lol

I wouldn't want to hazard a guess at the profit they're making - most pharmacies I've been in have 40-50% of the visible shelf space filled with codeine, and at one point; DHC, products.
They know exactly what you're up to, I quite often get a dry smile and a wink, to which I act "Oh, so innocent". ;)

^ That's true. The codeine products were always hidden away behind the counter and not on display years ago but they tend to be front and centre in prime display position - and with lots of variety to choose from - at every chemist I've been to this last coupla years. They clearly know what a fairly large customer base is after and have chosen to cater to it.

In vaguely related news, I got all excited at the pound shop earlier when I spotted a load of Bell's Linctus on sale. Checked the ingredients and it doesn't appear to be the one containing opium tincture unfortunately. Lawdy did I have a thing for that stuff back in me yoof <3

Yea I used to drink lots of linctus. But I'd get a list of online pharmacies do the rounds..... Would by 60 mg codeine pills n would find any excuse to have like 10 at once or would mix them with linctus. Would down the linctus like it was pop n have the 60s like they were sweets. Used to think that christmas was here.
Wasn't happy one day though cause I ordered off the online pharmacies some 15 mg codeine n they were fakes. I was having severe withdrawals coming down from all the 60s; trying to down LOTS of these 15 mg tabs. Ugh thank god I don't do that anymore.

Evey xxxx

some of the online pharms wouldnt give a shit and would ask no questions and be told no lies, others you had to tell them you had certain symptoms, and if you tried to re-order too often you'd be blacklisted. I found it extremely embarrasing asking in person at a paharmacists for codeine linctus and have never repeated the experience, after the woman vehemenetly said "NO!".

I've had pretty decent luck when it comes to buying codeine linctus in person, but it's still only a 25% success rate at most. Maybe 50%, but those times when they flat out refuse tend to stick in your head.

Helps if you're not in a major city centre, of course, though flirting with staff can work in my experience. Probably less to do with any sort of 'charm' than it is them wanting to get rid of the scary guy at the counter.

At the height of my lincti phase me and me chum would just ask randomers to buy bottles for us. British Gas were having a promotional drive outside Boots in the shopping centre one day and we got chatting to the fella. He was straight with us and said that he'd be very grateful if we put our names down for further information cos he got... can't recall exactly how much comission but a surprisingly large amount. He made it clear that we weren't actually agreeing to anything and if we happened to give a shonky address - and indeed name - it's not like he'd know or owt so we both did on the basis that in return he and his colleague went in and got us a bottle of Gee's each. Seemed a fair swap to me :D

Only lasted a few months in a small town before we had to more or less completely rely on getting friends, relatives and randomers to do all the buying cos your face soon becomes too well known. That chum of mine did a lot of temp driving work and most days we (me just along for the ride and for summat to do) would be delivering stuff around London or wherever and came back with carrierbag loads of assorted lincti from stopping at every chemists we came across. Some of the lil regional, independent chemists do their own local speciality cough mixtures. Found one in Norfolk that did a nice lemon-flavour one with ethyl-morphine which made for a nice change. Doubt it's as potent as morphine itself but it tasted nice and was noddy enough with relatively low tolerance.

Yea I used to drink lots of linctus.

Me too, but I was specifically referring to Gee's Linctus (which I somehow got confused with Bell's 8)) cos that contains actual opium tincture rather than the usual codeine. Much nicer buzz than codeine (imo, ime, ymmv, etc, etc) but annoyingly hard to get hold of. Got my very first proper cluck from Gee's (was drinking four bottles a day for quite some time). Baby cluck by later standards but seemed bad enough at the time. It's very oldskool - I think (although could be mistaken) that my granny used to give it me as a nipper when I had a cough. I do remember being very fond of cough medicine as a very young child before my mother got really into alternative medicine and all we got were homoeopathic stuffs.

Yeah they do, as they are extremely embarrassing, even more embarrassing than buying porn mags as a teenager. Nothing like trying to buy cigs or alcohol when underage where refusal was usually expected though, until word spread as to which stores or pubs were more lax than others.

You must be quite optimistic, positive and resilient if you consider 25 % to be a decent success rate. I generally fear to tread unless success is virtually guarenteed. This is holding me back in many areas of life. Im getting used to the success rate in job hunting being 0%, but i have to believe that one day i will get another job.

The success rate in response to CVs has increased dramatically, its just getting the interviews nailed now. I guess the same could be said for meeting the woman of your dreams; a guy i knew in one of the small towns i came from would approach girl after girl and attempt to charm them but get nothing but cold shoulders. It finally paid off for him though. He must have approached about 500 different women before finding one that was receptive. Jesus christ, no fucking way would i be that persistent.

I have had zero luck, after finally deciding 'well what's the worst that can happen?'. One time the woman said 'yeah I'll get you a bottle and went to fetch it then the head pharmacist tried to fob me off with pholcodine instead.

On the one hand I would be charming and good enough at lying to people it off but on the other hand I look about twelve. So online it is and even then only occasionally because postage. Defo getting me a poppy garden going.

I went to Chester town centre once while in uni n some man refused me nurofin plus. I was bloody FURIOUS! I felt it my god given right to get my hands on the packet. Usually I'm quite calm but i gave him a good ticking off, shouted out hiw the pharmacy was shit n went to Boots next door n bought it there instead.

Ugh i bought that pholcodene my mistake once but bought all my linctus online would drink round two bottles a day n one pharmacy sent me an E-mail saying I'm sorry but we can't sell you codeine products for next six months as it appears you've bought too much. My gawd it was a full time job seeking out all those different pharmacies because a lot of them were well hidden.

Im banned from buying Codiene products in 3 pharma's and my bro is banned from the same ones, some are just tight arses. Lloyds are the tightest where i live

I got ID'd for co-codamol and subjected to some strenuous questioning by an ASDA pharmacist the other day, because I bought co-co's twice in a month. Luckily (ha!), I have bad knees and, as such, need frequent surgery, so when questioned my instant response is always to refer to that fact. I'll even roll up my jeans and show the scars and pretty permanent swelling if they keep at it.

Went to this new pharmy in town n the guy there said that the low strength linctus is available script free, but when I went back the head pharm was there - he gave the "it's down to my discresion" ting. Went to my usual, she wasn't sure but had non in anyway. The one I barely visit said all were banned :? It were for mi mum's cough too - i gave her a few of my 30's n 1 a night helped her get sleep. Weird...
What experiences have all you had re: this?

I know though - online ;)

This has always been standard as long as I've bought codeine linctus from actual shops. One pharmacist will admit it's perfectly legal and - just like any other product - down to their discretion whether or not to serve you, the next will lie through their teeth and tell you it's either illegal or out of stock. Codeine linctus is perfectly legal without prescription but it is down to the pharmacist's discretion whether they choose to sell it to anybody or not. The same is true of aspirin. And every other product they sell which doesn't require a prescription. The discretion thing is the case with any shopkeeper and any product - they have the right to refuse service for any reason cos it's their shop.

I've never bought linctus in my life, co-codamol is far more widely available, and has legitimate uses. I'm pretty sure any pharmacist worth his MSc knows that codeine linctus is primarily used recreationally.

Optimistic? Positive? Me? :? :D

Resilient? Possibly, though I'm not usually the type who'd do something like attempt to buy codeine linctus unless I've really built myself up to it or if I have the benzos handy. Otherwise I'm more the type of person who'll avoid asking for something I need (and go without) rather than speak to the assistant in my creepy gruff voice. Same always went for scoring - hated it, would avoid it if at all possible, but just knuckled down and did it when I could muster the energy.

I've always done it as part of a wider pharmacy round for cocos too. If your luck's in, that's a couple of CWEs you don't need to do. If it isn't, then you move on to the next, and you tend to learn which places / staff will be more receptive.

Out of the two places I had in the city centre who wouldn't pull the 'out of stock' thing, unfortunately I started to use the non-chainstore place for needles in an emergency. Guess what? No more codeine linctus.

Never been refused cocos. I've had the questions about frequent usage though.
