No, she said he's had felony convictions, but only a few. I didn't ask her specifically how many out of the 29 he was convicted on, but if had been a significant amount, they would have said that instead of only saying how many he had been charged with. I'm sure I could ask my lawyer to find out more but I wasn't trying to drill this women for all the specifics on her son, just trying to offer her a little help.

Look, it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. Yes the kid was in trouble a lot over the years, and yes he fucked up while he was on drug court. But 40 years? On no planet does that make sense.

I am just trying to get my head wrapped around this. In 2001 the average time saved by each individual going through drug court was 27 years; with a retention rate of 67%.
What should be the result?

Let me shed some light for you. The DEA is not a reliable source of information. Or rather, it is not a one-stop-shop.
Be that as it may, I have not run into the sharpest tacs in the box on here either. That is starting to change, but if you are pissed at me, part of the problem might be the company you keep.
I have explained myself several times and most people who read me realize I am not a troll, so don't make yourself look like an ass.

This is outrageous, and completely illogical.

But the "war on drugs" has been this way since its inception. Crimminalizing and incarcerating folks who have done nonviolent, benign crimes (like selling even small amount of marijuana) and letting off folks, usually affluent ones, who have committed disgraceful, horrific crimes such as rape and murder.

They are making him a symbol of their "progress" in winning their war. When in fact, a fair and just system would have given him time in prison for breaking the law and the commitments he made for drug court, and the potential to have rehabilitation, behavioral therapy, and the ability to regain his health and his freedom.

As long as drug crimes are framed as a criminal problem instead of a health issue, this kind of ridiculous nonsense will continue to happen.

Not only do rapists and killers get just a few years for their crimes, but businesses (ie pharmaceutical companies) whose crimes and blatant lies have devastating affects on people's lives (remember the claim that Oxycottin wasn't addictive!?) in order to support their habit (increasing profit) get a slap on the wrist.

Heartbreaking.

1) Heroin should be illegal. The penalty for selling it should include a reasonable period of incarceration.

or

2) Heroin's illegality is irrelevant. Anybody who breaks a law should be punished, regardless of whether the law is a good law.

More or less. I'm able to feel deeply for animals and sometimes even plants, but when it comes to humans I'm not emotional. How did you know?

That doesn't mean I'm cruel. I have a philosophical opposition to brutality and injustice.

An economics professor told me the other day that since many firms are classified as limited liability corporations, you can prosecute the company but not the people within it. I don't know how true that is. Certainly the feds arepretty zealous when prosecuting doctors for fraud, but I don't know if those doctors are LLCs.
