Yes. You don't have to be a postwhore to be a good mod at all. In fact, it can work very well. Speak softly and hold a big stick and all that. I think you should apply.
Always worth applying if anybody thinks they want the job and could be up to doing it. At worst you won't get it and nobody other than mods will ever know you applied (cos I can understand people who don't get it after applying not wanting it to be public knowledge). But, if the application is good and there is some other reason for not getting it (there are all kindsa reasons why somebody doesn't get the stick even with a good application) it will be remembered that you made a good application which will bode well for any future positions if whatever the reasons for not getting it this time around no longer apply next time it comes up.
And perhaps there's more to the recruitment story than the mods are letting on. Ever think of that one
