i got down from 8 mg to 2mg easily. 2mg to 0mg (in 0.5 steps) was extremely difficult first time i tried and it took weeks and weeks. I couldnt do it, i couldnt hold out for more than 6 days. I had a few weeks back on a low dose, 'recharged my batteries', ate well, slept well, even gave up smoking. I tried again in early Jan and tapered down from 0.4 to 0.2 then 0.1 then 0. It was 100 % easier on my second attempt, i just had minor body chills/buzzes for 2 days. That was the worst of it. It was a mixture of things that helped make the difference both physically and mentally.
I agree with you Eve that the main point is that i have finally got off the stuff. I could probably have done it a lot quicker with a supervised taper or in a detox setting, where you get injected with mega doses of vitamins etc and its all over much quicker. I think i started my taper in the spring of 2013 and didnt complete it first time round until early December. The worst time of year imaginable to try to stop. It was meant to end in summer 2013, such are the problems with self managed tapers. Some people take years and years to taper off, relative to that ive been quite quick, but relative to the 12 days that prisoners get, so i was told, i clearly took it at a snails pace.
"There is no right or wrong way to do a taper." You can do it however you find most bearable or comfortable.
