What Are You Drinking? V. Pretty Gay, Turns Out.

yeah and Wild Thingy are heroic, like Musical Youth ;)

Export is old skool, true, but it is basic. Doesn't stop me drinking it, I'd rather drink Export than Stella, even at twice the price.

I quite like the idea of Special Brew cake. Special Brew was my first beer. It is rank though, how dare you insinuate they make Champion out of SB!

Would you drink the Scotch straight or mix with a bit of water or something else?
I really like the taste of Glenmorange(sp?),lovely whiskey that is.

I've just finished a half bottle of Glenlivet 12 y.o. Not this morning, yesterday morning ;)

It lasted three days though.

I always have water with my whisky. Same amount water as whisky. Thanks, make mine a double!

I do love the warm glow that Whiskey gives you in your stomach.
I don't drink very often but straight whisky or with some water is a really nice winter warmer to have in the evening.
My mate can't stand the stuff, just the smell makes him want to throw up. Heathen

It's a bit like marmite is whisky, I'm in the love it camp, though I'm not one for drinking it straight, I like to dilute it so I can drink it like juice, in fact I see it as a sort of diluting juice. "makes 1.5 litres". I think that makes me a heathen.

Some whiskies benefit from a drop of water, others don't.

Anything at 40% strength is already diluted well enough I find, though a touch of water doesn't hurt.

If you're drinking one of the many, many nouveau-malts that have flooded the market since the nineties, (neither of the malts mentioned above, which are pretty balanced) you're often forced to dilute it in order to make it a little less cloying.

There's a reason why most malt whisky is produced for use in blends and wasn't meant for general sale. Of course, your middle-management type doesn't have a clue about that.

What if you're middle-management in a distillery? (My uncle was).

You have a very Mancunian attitude when it comes to drink, sam! The right way, or the highway.

Then you probably know everything about whisky! Including the single malt scam that's been going on since the days of the Whisky Lake!

Grant's / Glenfiddich is a pretty traditional company. I wish I had your uncle's old job. :)

Hey, I swig from the bottle most of the time! I'm no example.

I just cringe when I see acquaintances of mine wasting £100 or so on something that would've been considered barely-drinkable thirty years ago when there are top-line blends for cheaper.

Oh aye there's definitely a scam. SIngle malt drinkers can rival religious fundamentalists for their worship of holy mists. And of course the producers wouldn't encourage that.

You're going to tell me of something much more specific, which leaves the fantasy world of priceless drops of flavoured ethanol intact! I can feel it.

i know your meant to drink it with a dash of water and ice but i like mine straight out the bottle neck :) love whiskys the one drink ive no problem spending silly money on

Nah, I just think it's funny the way that drinks companies had the gall to sell their surplus as a 'premium' product and change the face of the whisky business in the process. Mostly sold to foreigners, yes, but you'd think British people would know better. On second thoughts, maybe not. :D

That's not to say some of the new malts aren't very nice indeed; in fact, some are absolutely gorgeous. It's just easy to spot someone who doesn't know a thing about whisky, because they'll exclusively drink single malts!

My father is a jack daniels drinker. Filthy stuff.

I'm very much a gin man although it is getting very poncey these days...

Having an enforced absence from alcohol at the moment for first time in 3 years - hence lurking this thread and salivating...

Jack is okay - always available, not offensive. I prefer Jim Beam if we're talking bourbon within a similar price range, but it does the job.

Gin has always been bloody poncey! Nearly every one of my girlfriends has been a gin drinker. I tend to think of gin as being inherently feminine. :D

It's had it's non-poncey moments :)
