Yes! Gay marriage finally legal!

Can you seriously not just go into a registry office and get married? There is no need to have a religious ceremony in Scotland. Is England really that backwards?

By that I mean the English State, not the the English people :D
Marriage comes with years of 'baggage' and it's inherently patriarchal. It is also closely related with The Church which I hate and want nothing to do with.

Yes, if worst comes to worst, we will just bite the bullet and get a marriage.

We all, gayorstraight (;)) , have the right to choose between civil partnership or marriage.

They've been doing it in France for years and years.

Will Self AND Hitchens double whammy

(covers the hetro civil partnership issue too)

Pretty sure round these parts if you live with someone as your "long-term partner" you get all the same basic rights as a married couple. Anyone know for sure? You certainly don't "lose everything" if one of you coups it.

Edit - My maw got married about 10 years back, it had absolutely fuck all to do with the church. I don't see what's different from their wedding, that happened in a hotel, and a "civil partnership". Can anyone explain?

Yay, a whole new gender for me to not marry. (I'm pretty sure if you specify who gets what in your will, that's legally binding, no?)

It's good news for folks that are marriagely-inclined, though. :)

That's assuming there is a will...

Thanks for the vid marmz, very interesting. And yes, I believe people that don't like gay marriage are homophobic. Simples.

Ptch - marriage is intrinsically linked to the Church whether it's held in one of not.

We desperately need a secular state! Just hopefully not one link USA...

Common law marriage:
The term "common law marriage" has been used in England and Wales since the 1960s to refer to unmarried, cohabiting heterosexual relationships.[19] However, this is merely a social usage. The term does not confer on cohabiting parties any of the rights or obligations enjoyed by spouses or civil partners.

I just don't like marriage. End of. Am I a homophobe? I want people to stop seeking to have authorities validate their living arrangements. Does that I mean I hate gays? =D
Don't be dumb. If you don't hate marriage because of gay marriage then no, you're not homophobic.

You have no idea. I simply do not know where to start, and when I ask about stuff, like what to do with my hard hat, people just ignore me.

If I was going to get married, especially gay married, I would want to wear the hard hat.

But this is just dreaming. Not much chance.
