The Weather Thread ...

+1.

Fucking love the dark nights. Autumn is my fav season. Lots more mischief to get up to during the dark nights. Lets be honest we're not living in the north pole ffs . A good jacket and your golden. I just feel happier whe it s darket.Don't get me wrong I do like the summer but isn't that what seasons are for?

I think winter is great if you live in a city and have money, but if you live somewhere where there's not much to do and/or aren't flush then it can be a bit isolating and miserable.

It's too early for this malarky. It can fuck right off

UK weather: Snow sweeps in as Britain braces for two week cold snap

Forecasters warn of wintry conditions and lower than average temperatures set to settle over country

Britain is set for a two week cold snap of low temperatures, wintry showers and snow in some areas, forecasters have warned.

Parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland and Northern England saw up to 10cm (4 inches) of snow today, and the cold front is sweeping down across the country, a spokesperson for the Met Office said.

The moving front brings cold, wintry gusts of up to 70mph across some of the west coast, before a spell of high pressure will see icy conditions settle over Britain for the next two weeks.

Forecaster Ben Windsor of Meteogroup said the front would hit the south overnight. “It will get quite cold in London,” Mr Windsor said. “There's a chance of a bit of sleet, but probably not snow.”

Mr Windsor said the South east's clear skies tonight would make it particularly susceptible to cold weather. It is expected to reach minus 4C.

Nicola Maxey, a spokeswoman for the Met Office, said: “Temperatures will be below the average maximum for November of 9.13C, and through tomorrow much of country is looking at maybe not much over 5 or 6 degrees.

“It will stay cold, particularly in the south east, with frost widespread. This generally settled but cold weather with frost patches takes us through to 3 December,” she said.

Manchester will be the coldest city later in the week, when the mercury is tipped to fall to minus 2C on Friday and minus 3C on Saturday.

Ms Maxey said the majority of us will see wintry showers, with the possibility of settled snow on higher ground.

Guardian:

Freezing weather hits Britain. Temperatures to fall as low as -4C as piercing high winds, rain and snow sweep country from north to south

Britain to be hit by entirely typical weather

TEMPERATURES in the UK are going to fall sharply over the coming weeks because that is what happens at this time of year, it has been claimed.

During winter snow can often reach the ground
Meteorologists believe that winter, a spell of short, cold days commonly defined as a season, will be more or less exactly what you would expect.

Professor Henry Brubaker of the Institute for Studies said: “Household fuel costs will rise considerably as families try to increase the temperature of their homes.

“People on the verge of death may die.

“Ice and snow will create icy, snowy conditions.

“Your car will refuse to start.

“Because it’s winter.

“It’s really nothing to freak out about, unless you’re a pre-Neanderthal cave dweller who believes sunsets are caused by Gark, the angry moon god.”

He added: “There’s a high probability that this winter will be followed by another sudden, weather-related phenomenon known as spring.”

Housewife Nikki Hollis said: “The important thing is to stay inside, carry a flaming torch at all times and don’t be sentimental about eating your plumpest child.”

Hahahahaha. =D

People at work are acting like the apocalypse is imminent already. On the plus side, we often get to go home early because none of the directors want their Jaguars to get snowed into the car park.

Away with yer scientific bullshit. I've read the Daily Express. We're all going to die.

Commuters could be heading for a winter of delays – after Metrolink’s boss revealed the new trams ‘don’t like ice’.

His admission came after rush hour commuters yesterday faced huge delays, with services suspended between Rochdale and Oldham, thought to be caused by ice on the overhead cables.

One tram was stuck on the line at Derker for two hours while technicians were called.

Sorry, they mdont like ice.

He said: “I had to get a bus to town and then a tram to Salford. I’ve been late so much lately that I’m getting in loads of trouble and it could mean I don’t get a promotion I want. It’s absolutely awful, a nightmare.” - Michael Pollitt, 29, from Chorlton

is there such a thing as long range weather forecast? i mena, i find the 4/5 day one pretty laughable to be hones. we ve been waiting for a few weeks now for the temps to drop below freezing. not that im comp[laining, i hate frost.

It's 10°C indoors here. I have had the heating on recently when it's been very cold, but I've decided to try not having heating at all, I think it's probably healthier (as long as I'm not actually freezing to death) and obviously cheaper in fuel. So far so good. I finally found my scissors and have cut the fingertips of a pair of gloves so I can type.

Already feel more energetic, and I'm told it's good for weight loss too! So hopefully I'll be shedding all those GBL induced pounds that have been piling on. Talking of which I think it's GBL time.

I don't use my heating either Knock .

Cos it is 21 in my flat atm n floats around 20 all winter .

10 is just silly or Squat/Ghetto no need mate you haven't spent all yer £ on GBL ? :?

Bloody hell that's pretty good gooding without heating. Jealous!

Nah it's just fucking cold here and it's an old building so not really much in the way of insulation (put down some loft insulation a couple of years ago, that's it. No cavities in the walls to fill.)

So you can see why the Scots deep fry everything, are hard bastards and miserable on top =D Oh yeah and either drunk/drugged or devout!

i dont see how its healthier knock. Putting a thick curtain over my draughty front door has made a huge difference so far this winter, my house is so much warmer, mind you ive had the heating on low setting constantly from the time i get up to the time i go to bed, and im at home almost all day allmost every day as im unemployed, im dreading my next bill. If i dont get a job soon, im seriously properly gonna have to back to basics and start seriosuly forraging for the driest bits of wood i can find lying around the wooded areas or in skips. I find fires fascinating and just love playing around poking bits of wood in this direction or that, to get the fucker booming properly. I also love the idea of free fuel, and recycling waste products.

All the best bits of pine i had in the shed are mostly gone, pine is extremely flammable, but now im left with my old wooden fence and poles, and various other bits oif wood that fill my shed. it takes a lot to get these going, i dunno why, its been indoors drying out for weeks.

Unfortunately my downstairs fireplace is all proffessioanlly sealed off, so i dont really want to fuck that up, so unless get things get really desperate i wont be messing around with that, but the upstairs fireplace works fine.

Standard have you got a car /van ?

My heating was broken the last three nights and probably added to my insomnia feet felt frostbitten lol
bought a 3 halogen lamp electric heater today and my old lad came over to try in fix my boiler im on gas so i need it to heat the water and rads advantage is because its not an electric immersion it heats instantly took less than 1 min to get from min to max temperature.
Anyway my old lad went to fix it and found out i had obviously hit the timer while on acid and switching the timer off fixed it.
fucks sake lol a bit dumb of me it wasnt broken at all just required a less acid addled mind to operate it.
fixxered

yeah, thats gotta be the way, forraging on foot saves petrol but its fuckin hard work carrying heavy fallen logs around and stuff, embarrasing too lol, and if i get a get bootfull every time itll be worth more than the petrol.

When i lived in a bedsit in my mid twenties it was like 2C in the room when i get home from work, the calor gas heater soon sorted it though. I couldnt cope with that level of cold now. Reckon theres something fucked with my circulation as i shouldnt be feeling the cold this bad at only 42.
