Deadlier than ever: Welcome to the new ice age

Columbia? don't they mean Colombia .
Sounds strange, Chinese people importing Meth into Oz from a South American country that isn't really a producer of meth.

Just makes me think of the Condra scandal. Wouldn't surprise me if all Governments are in the bed with Colombian cartels... 8o

haha also I knew that news.com.au wouldn't publish any of my comments, they were clearly far too reasonable.

As I recall it first started showing up in the late 90's, but only really became big after the heroin drought of, I think it was 2001?

And yeah, there are huge industrial scale labs over in the golden triangle. Unlike heroin, meth doesn't rely on agricultural cycles.

I first came across ice around 1998 i think it was, it was called shaboo then. I was in high school and i personally didnt try it at the time (not until the early naughties) but it was mostly being sold locally by asians(S/E) with some connections to street gangs.

According to information i have seen, authorities believe that crystal methamphetamine started hitting the streets in decent amounts in 1997/98, But methamphetamine (not crystalised form) first came to australia in the early 80s.

also to add...
price wise back then it was alot cheaper than todays price, even in the mid naughties it was like 1/3rd the price than it is today... considering the amount that is being produced locally and imported is alot more than back then, it surprises me how prices have gone the way they did. opp to supply and demand

mid naughties
*chuckles and smiles* pretty wild time that was..

opp to supply and demand
Im not sure that drugs fall very well into the classic model of this at least with drugs whose users have a high rate of addiction as it is usually based on the consumer having a choice to use their money for something else which doesn't really fit with addiction. This ia also the concept behind why health care has such a hard time in a free market where supply is reduced on purpose by health care providers but demand is nontraditional as everyone who becomes sick usually values their life over everything else and has no choice but to need to get better... I guess unless its addiction which many people value their DOC over health, but that just goes to show that drugs like meth will likely not follow a traditional S & D model. Also competition is so limited because of the black market.
