Jobseeker's Allowance Megathread ver. The Jeremy Kyle Fan Club

MDB - I came off a 4 week one & as I missed 1 job on my universal jobmatch thing I got classed as "not looking for work" & they throw 3 months at you in a blink of a eye. My advice is ANY job you have on your Universal job search, apply for it no matter how shit it may be..

Fuckin hell, theyll be getting the unemployed to build their own Auswitch next. Sorry if thats in bad taste, but it is making me very angry. I'll get a job as soon as im able to ffs,.

Bodda, you do know that you don't have to allow the jobcentre access to your Universal Jobmatch account. I haven't allowed them access to mine and they cannot legally require you to do so.
If they don't have access to your account it makes it a lot harder for them to sanction you and they also cannot send you jobs on there to apply for if you don't allow them to have access.

i keep telling them how shit ujm is, like jobs that are 6 weeks old on it, wtf is the point of that, it just fires you off to Monster anyway. I just use Reed which is far better for the type of jobs im looking for. Tbh the advisor is having a hard job to disagree with what im telling him. I know its not his fault, hes actually, surprisingly enough a very decent fella, ive created about 3 different accounts, kept loosing my passwords, but i think next time i go in hes gonna get tougher on me if i dont let him have a look at my latest account.

You don't have to give them access to it MDB.
When you create an account there is a tick box asking if you give permission for Jcp to access it, you do not have to tick the box if you don't want them to have access to it. I haven't given them my email, phone number even though they asked, I just said that that can contact me via post.

Can you still change your settings after you have used it a few times?
I am going to have a look now.

They are swines really, they never let onto that small issue to me!!!!

I still got that Xmas thing lined up I spoke about on Facebook but getting there now will be an issue due to the bus fair, I really wanted that job too as I cna speak perfect black country & take a real pride in the local history of the area I live in.
Cutting my JSA in the loong run has caused more of an issue that it was meant to have "fixed"

the guy asks to see my account when i go in, ive told him 'i believe its within my rights to untick the allow access box' which he confirmed. He still wants to see my account though. Im a bit confused. So the box you tick prevensts them spying on you all the time, but every 2 weeks they want to and can check what youve done on ther when you sign on ?

Yes mate, you can tick or untick the boxes whenever you like. It doesn't have to stay ticked if you don't want to.

You jobseekers agreement states that you have to 'show I have been actively seeking work every week, every time I attend the jobcentre'.
So all you have to do is show you were seeking work which doesn't mean you have to show them yr UJ account. I just take in written evidence of jobs I applied for and occasionally they ask me if I have given them access to my UJ account and I tell them I haven't and nothing more is said about it.

OK thank you, Ill say that to him, and see what he says in reply. I allways fire off a load of cvs on Reed just to be safe. He keeps saying they are getting pushed harder and harder about UJM, i dont doubt that, but if you dont actually have to let them see, and theres no mechansim for them to enforce it, then what a complete waste of time it is.

you know this not getting JSA if you quit your current job, for 3 months... I'm guessing i you can' do your current job any more due to ongoing back pain...and need a job where you ideally aren't constantly moving around... i.e. office job. I'm thinking surely in cases such as that I'd still be allowed to sign on? Or would I have to actually be fired/let go...rather than quit? Anyone know?

there is "contribution based jsa" that is slightly different. I went on that cos i quit my job and had savings. Im not sure how long you have to wait to claim that, i was too fucked up, more interested in being completely wasted the whole time after i left my job, so i nevr got round to signing on for CBJSA for a few months anyway. It only lasts for 6 months.

They will say you need to claim ESA if you are unfit for work mate. Can you not get a 'sick note' from your doctor if it's that bad you cant do your job, worth a try maybe? Oh and if they suspect you for trying to get the sack they will not let you claim so you would have to be careful, but I would not advice doing so.

Thing is I can work, just not where I am or the position I am in, and they have no office jobs available. So I may well have to go on the sick and look for a suitable job while signed off. I can't afford to lose 3 months of 70quid a week support. Whether thats JSA or ESA. Thats like 800quid or something off the top of my head.

I'm off for another week (doctors sick note) come monday...then I have another doctors appointment week on monday. She's aware of my back problems but also my mental health. Maybe I will have to play it for more time off work, or go back and be told I'm unfit to work...then I'd imagine I'd be fired?

Ugh...why is it so complicated!

Are they not offering any proper mental health assesment? While they do that they should just sign you off but be careful what you say, i made the mistake of being brutally honest and my medical record will always have that now and in this day and age when it comes to drug use its easy to be diagnosed with psycosis which is not the best thing to have recorded, I wish I kept my mouth shut in hindsight.

Well I've been depressed and anxious for years and years...but I self medicate and deal with it...although it could be argued I'm not dealing with it. I just can't do a physically demanding job any more I've realised. It's too much strain for my back. Hopefully you'd imagine they would be understanding about it since I had a tumor removed from my spine and I have a slipped disc too. They sorted one problem (the tumor) I was off work for months and months, been back and was fine at first, but at the end of each day I am in agony again.

Basically I need a job where I can sit down most of the day and move my body very little.

If I can't leave my job and be paid 70 a week because of bureaucracy that's a travesty. I will have to say I am unable to work at all and be signed off till I find a suitable job? Seems like a joke and dishonest but if you are saying that's the only option...

They will fuck you at any chance they have, they will use any reason they can so as long as you have the support of the doctor you should be ok but without that you really will get raped as they will say you chose to leave employment. Really it sounds like you should be on ESA untill you can find something more suitable. Good luck, I know it's a total cluster fuck.

There are all sorts of folk out there who'll take great sexual pleasure in chopping off yer legs for shits and sexual giggles ... BME would be the place to start. Bodda will give you some direction to the right people I'm sure of it.

More dileriously tired than drunk (apologies TD). I needed to give Raas the opportunity to feel least offensive for once. It helps build his character.

Driving jobs, especially Lorry driving, are insanely tiring, and very restrictive when it comes to body movement. Not sure I'd advise the same thing Raas.

TD: The way the system is atm, it actively encourages you to have to LIE, because often the truth doesn't fit their brackets. It's ridiculous.

I'd get your depresssion and anxiety formally acknowledged at your docs. Because otherwise they wont take it into account when they assess what jobs you're going to have to apply for in the future (after being on ESA or whatever), or wont acknowledge it being a factor for the reason you cant perform your current tasks. Go on for as long as possible with your current employers, using sick notes from your Doc stating all the reasons why you cannot perform your current role due to X Y Z. Leave it up to your employers to decide what to do with you (as long as you can survive £wise on what youre getting SSP etc) and go on for as long as possible like that imo.

Don't retire yourself on the grounds of illhealth off your own back, get your employers to make that decision for you eventually, which they will and keep getting sicknotes for as long as possible from your Doctor. When you see your Doc for your next visit, you could have all the info about your depression and anxiety typed out and hand them the written letter to read from so youve made sure youve explained everything you can think of and how it affects you. its sometimes easier to do it that way. I do that and it helps

Your current employers may try to help you by accomodating you with a different roll, you never know. But please don't just retire yourself on the grounds of illhealth unless you're trying to keep things hidden from your doctors records, so you can keep certain future job opportunities open or something, if that makes sense
