Work for the state. They are far less concerned with fucking you over/using you to their own ends, since at the
end of the day it's not their money they're saving. Most state bosses I've worked for will only be making their lives harder by getting rid of you, since they have less staff to do the same amount of work. This only works of course if they're not under pressure from their boss to 'increase profit margins/make cut backs' and all that bollocks.

Become a Doctor or something.
 
oh yes, my last employer used to offer a very generous shift allowance for working a 4 on 4 off shift pattern of 12 hour days inc weekends. They decided to scrap the shift allowance and introduced "ANNUALISED HOURS" :! where you basically have to work any hours they want you to with no allowances for antisocial hours.

Hindsight is a wonderfull thing. But we should have stuck together and refued to accept the new T&cS. Yes we'd al have lost our jobs but the company would also have lost its multi million pound support contract with the company it was sposed to provide support for, as it obviuoulsy cannot provide support without any staff. I sometimes think trade unions go a bit too far, but they are necessary to hekp form solidarirty between workers, Together we are strong enough to bring down a multi million pound contract.

They inevitably used the economic downturn excuse. Patronising BASTARDS didnt they know we know how to use google and each company was making in excess if 4 billion £s annual profit at the height of the downturn. :X

for reasons of discretion im reluctant to publically name the multi billion pound corporations responsible, but if an1 that i i 'know' on here really wants to know PM me.

20 years ago I was in a decently paid (21K) if pretty boring job when I got offered another (for 22K) which offered, on paper, more chance for helping people and causing some trouble for bureaucracies who deserved to be troubled. So I took it.

Turned up for work, first morning, 9am, doors locked. I waited until 10am when another worker finally turned up with the welcoming words "Who are you?". This was an organisation with a staff of four people. When I explained I'd turned up for a new job his immediate reply was;

"Oh shit. Sorry, we've just lost the funding for that post, but don't worry..."

And his sentence tailed off to nowhere.

I spent one week there. In that time I went to four coffee mornings (I'm sure the other people there called them "meetings") and one horrendous evening tenants meeting with five white people and one black person where one of the white staff used the phrase "nigger-in-a-wood-pile"

Right on Islington. And no, despite the fact I'm 108 this wasn't 1873. It was 1992.

They paid me several hundred pounds at the end of the week out of the largest petty cash box I've ever seen. When I didn't come back, ever, I got threatening phone calls from them demanding to know what my "hidden agenda" was.

This was a normal, charity funded job. They were fucking mental.

It turned out to be a life-changing moment. It's a strange world.

A mate of mine (aged 36) worked for citibank in London working as an IT contractor. He made a fuck ton of money and is now retired....at 36. He was working with them at the point of the banking crisis and was given the opportunity of earning 10% of any savings he could make the company. He implemented a new "system"` that was used world wide and saved them zillions!

Colleagues as well...be careful what you say and to whom
 
It certainly pays to be aware that some colleagues can be back-stabbers, and to keep them at arms length, but work is shit enough already without distrusting all your fellow workers. The snakes tend to be in a minority, although they can cause problems for everyone. Be cautious about who you trust, but in a new workplace other workers will often tell you who's dodgy.
 
I work with some right critizing hypocrite two faced fucks. bad atmosphere sometimes, especially when the office staff slag us off whilst we work our tits off
 
I hate work with a passion but self motivation is something I struggle greatly with. I haven't really done any proper work since Tuesday.
 
Been a contractor for the games industry for the last 12 months or so and heard similar stuff from all my clients. "We need you for the next 6 months"... Then what you actually get is about 2 months work spread over the 6 months. Still, I've had plenty of time to myself that I wouldn't get with an office job!

I havent done any since February. :\

The shit stirrer got my job after i left. Before i left i let one of the people he'd landed deep in the shit know who the culprit was. I had to think long and hardbefore i did that. When the grass did it a 2nd time to the same person, i had to tell him, so he'd know when not to voice his opinions. He didnt have a clue who was grassing him up. The 'victim' has a bit of an unpredictable character, hence my hesitation about telling him immediately, as i like him a lot and wouldnt want him to do anything rash. The grass used to print off peoples facebook messages and show them to HR, what an absolute shit he was.
