Work have done the dirty on me now I feel used! I left a job to take on this job with the promise of 5 years work, they needed someone with certain expertise so I agreed. I designed and built a 4 ton jib crane, designed and built a robot to weld these things together, revised all the drawings and sorted it all out. Basically set the whole thing up for them to be told today "we've got no more work for you, we can't afford to pay you what we do"
WANKERS!
I left there today with a sore arse. Who else has been shit on by their employers?
Happy Friday! -_-

This is pretty normal. Employers are cunts.

I was promised ongoing contract work, when I told them (in July!) I needed a couple of weeks holiday at Christmas because of my family situation (brother had just died, other brother is in wheel chair so needs assistance, elderly parents) they said goodbye.

Never trust a boss.

Mr BuffnStuff, you can't go on "promises" you need contracts drawn out. If they say "We promise you 5 years work", well then get them to sign it in paper. otherwise you're leaving yourself wide open.

Sorry to sound harsh, but Employers are always looking for someone to use. They have the stresses of running a competitive business and can get quite expedient when pursuing it's success. You gotta recognise this and be firm with them, else you'll get walked over.

im with raas on this one.

bosses and employers suck and use people for all kinds of shit. i get used all the time working on stuff thats not in my contract either, but if i dont, ill get sidelined for the normal workload but at times, such as your situation, contracts can help.

especially when switching jobs and agreeing on money, you need contracts.

Never been fucked over like that so to speak but my last 'proper' job (and I really hope the last ever proper job) I was working for one of the biggest companies in the world and I believe biggest in the UK yet they employed me through an agency so they could fuck me over, pay me less than people sat next to me doing the same job (often being worse at it than me), limited holidays, no pension, no paid sick days, no benefits and could be sacked within 7 days for no reason if they didn't like or need me any more.

This day and age and there's still not equal rights in the work place? Wasn't that supposed to have been stamped out years ago?

Corporations and big companies are scum. Only way forward is working for yourself.

Have a mate who works for another major UK company but is employed through an agency and faces similar problems. He basically only works week to week and can be told on a Friday "there's no work next week don't come in" yet if he phones in sick one day he'll be threatened with all sorts and told if hes off again withon next 6 months not to bother coming back even though hes not paid for sick days.

He'll put holidays in and they'll grant them then the day before cancel them and say "sorry you can't have them we need you in now" and he'll lose out on flights and accomodation he's booked for trips away. Usually he can't get any more than 1-2 days holiday in a row so can't even go anywhere anyway.

So much for the UK being so advanced with it's workers rights and all that bollocks. Load of garbage. They just get around everything by using agencies and short term contracts. They report multi million and billion dollar profits and send you emails and bang on about it every 5 minutes when you're working whilst at the same time screwing you over by giving you piss poor wages and no benefits. Fucking wankers.

If I ever work for someone else again it will be too soon. :!

The bad thing is that with higher unemployment rates they know they can get away with it as people are desperate for any job, just last night I was having dinner with some friends, one has been a bartender for years he's saying that now most bars give you 50 euros for a shift that goes from 8 pm until 4 am and when you complain they point out that some bars are pying 30 euros, it's ridicolous, such low amounts of money. Thing is ten years you could earn twice as much

Contracts don't help. No employer will give you a guaranteed 5 year contract if they're thinking they might not need you for 5 years. Instead they'll give you a 5 year contract which ties you in for five years but they need only give 1 week's notice. I've had such contracts, not for 5 years, I wouldn't be so stupid, the norm is six months.

Damn right Knock!

Always take photo's of company shit so if they fuck you over you can do the same.

And if you know they're bastards with a high turnover giving their electronic equipment small doses of magnetic dust over a certain period works wonders, especially if your fellow colleagues are twats too!

I do a lot of contract work but in my game it's very open. You and your bosses are very open they won't sugar coat anything I'm used to being told when I'll be finished and stuff. And vice versa, it's always been like that in the big money contracting game. I'm not used to (or have forgot) what these shitty little places are like. The bitchyness and the ass kissing. I'm not bothered about the work ending if it sounds that way? I'm bothered about the fact I set them up and sorted out this 5 years worth of work for them to then be dropped after they've used all my skills to fill the void try have.

Eh? My example above is from a contract I had with Citi group, not a "shitty little place".

In case you've not heard of them:

Thing is what I do is very highly skilled and specialist, that's why they contacted me first. In my game 2 hours notice is the normal!
It's a sort of unspoken rule amongst all the people and companies, 2 hours notice, no such thing as formal verbals or written warnings. It's all very open if you get told you've done something wrong and you've been finished there's not much you can do you just accept it. I'm pissed off I was used for my expertise then dropped.

That's my point. If they're true to their world they'll put a signature by it; otherwise you stand for being exploited.

Sorry knock I wasn't referring to where you was. I meant shitty little places as in small workshops and things, like where I have been the last few weeks :)

So if 2hrs notice is the norm why are you surprised you were told to jog on with little notice?

Seems like you would expect that might happen.

I was just making the point that it's not just shitty little places that'll shaft you, which you seemed to be implying. I'm not used to (or have forgot) what these shitty little places are like. The bitchyness and the ass kissing. Get that stuff everywhere.

As I said, it's not the fact iv been dropped with no notice. It's the fact I set that place up, designed and built a welding robot a freestanding jig crane sorted all their drawings out, brought new processes to the place so they can actually make these products iv done the first few to a real high standard to secure them the contract THEN I get dropped. I was USED as abused. Not bothered about the not working there now just the fact I have been used. I feel cheated

ha yeah it's a terrible thing to happen, no doubt :D just when you've seen people being shat on and been shat on it's no surprise when buff is shat on.

buffnstuff.... you should have designed something in the machine that needs your direct input.... so that if they shaft you it breaks down and you make them pay through the proverbial nose to fix it.

I used to work for a bookies, was constantly getting shafted... changing the opening hours, working on my own late at night in a really rough part of london, suffering an armed robbery and being made to work the next day. Shop had a massive turnover and I got paid absolute shit. Bookmakers use people... staff and customers - total cunts
