Yeah I can't see how an single armed individual can alter the political landscape in any systematic and constructive way by themselves. I think its different for groups. Going back to the black panthers, I can appreciate how patrolling the streets of oakland armed with loaded guns was a potential deterrent to police brutality. I have no idea if it was effective or not but I can see the logic. One dude on his own though? After years of watching all these 20 man swat teams kicking in doors for a 5 score of weed on channel 5, I'm thinking this is not an effective strategy.
Really depends how you look at it - for the police force x amount of drug arrests equals they get funding for the following year. To them it doesn't matter if it's a drug lord, dealer or a guy with a 5 score - it puts numbers where they should be and that's all that matters to them. How many of the people arrested and imprisoned are guilty of being in a house where drugs were found (non users) - how many are serving 25 years for a bit of grass ?
Theres a really good documentary / Film that I mentioned a while back called ' how to make money selling drugs' - the statistics being mentioned were crazy, the way the police force allow the drugs into an area and target the money coming out as they can keep that etc.

Bearlove, was not exactly what I meant by effective straregy, by strategy I was referring to the individual arming themselves against the government. I worded it atrociously. In any case, I thought your post was interesting so lets go with that. I really like the documentary "collapse" - watched it quite a few times lately. In it they talk about the CIA importing drugs into LA. Its like the real life version if "traffic", not that I'm particularly surprised I have to say.
I lived in portland, oregan for a year back when I was 20. I thought it was ok generally but was unnerved by how difficult it was to buy the ingredients for a fry up. The only type of sausages they seemed to have was bratwurst. Ironically I happen to be half german, but a fry up is a fry up.
My american friend tells me

Though, my understanding is the last civil war they had the civilians were opposed to ending slavery and 600,000 men died from it. And they still lost.

Yes they are fun I fucking love shooting shit, but that is no reason to own a fire arm imo. And we own guns as a collective peoples to uphold the constitution and protect this great nation from the threat of a tyrannical government. Nobody is taking on a tank with an AR15, but I would consider an AR to be the most basic tool in possible conflict. They could be used to obtain real weapons and such. Also being racist is a stereotype of a southerner no different than Brits having bad teeth, being boring, or the french being pussies/gays. I hold no ill will towards any race as it is the individuals character that matters not skin color IMO

It's time we (like Pagey, I find myself in this awkward half American berth) armed school teachers to give them a chance. It's all very well and good the holier-than-thou British claiming that making a simple amendment and introducing gun control will do the trick, but this is the constitution - a part of American history - and the second amendment is steeped in the very foundation of the nation. You can't just change such things like that.
Not to mention that guns are everywhere already. What sort of effect do you think gun control will achieve? The honourable and law-abiding will be the ones who lose out as they sacrifice their protection to criminals, crazies and paedophiles.
No, America is a very different country to here and the right to arm bears is a liberty that cannot be sacrificed in the face of mindless thuggery.
Drop the no-gun zones in schools. Allow teachers to protect their children.
