Where are the firearms at?

Say what you want but more freedom is always better than less freedom it is just fact
I don't think people should be free to buy or sell each other. I don't think people should be free to spy on their neighbours. I don't think people should be free to drink and drive, or to shout "Fire!" falsely in a public place. "Liberty is good" is a platitude, and it reveals a lack of understanding of the nuances of the issue, which is that there are contending liberties.

In both of our countries, for the vast majority of people, it's not possible to eat, to clothe ourselves or to have a home unless someone is making money out of it. ipso facto, it's not possible for most of us to live without renting ourselves out for at least a third of each weekday. Is that freedom?

i saw the irony I was simply reiterating my point. Yeah I saw a bit about how london had the most cameras of any city in the world. Also I love top gear and Jeremy is always bitching about stupid things yalls government does. Sharia law has legitimacy in the Englands legal system b/c they are too afraid to offend their precious muslims. Dont think for one second I am ignorant to your culture it is one place I really want to visit. When I said I felt bad that your government was so overbearing I was being honest.

PLease don't take Jeremy Clarkson as indicative of anything in England, the guy is a colossal prick.

Heh, it's hilarious how Americans talk about guns protecting their liberty when their civil rights and privacy are being eroded daily, or protecting them from tyranny when two behemoth political machines engage in crony capitalism. As long as Billy Bob has an AR-15 under the mattress he can sleep at night despite living in a country which has become a police state with a booming prison industry. They've been duped into thinking that their right to bear arms actually helps to be free in an age where liberty is fought for with words, not lead. Romans had bread and circuses, you guys have pizza rolls and Glocks.

Couldn't have said it better.

I just think UK residents are largely content with getting beered up and throwing a few haymakers. Guns aren't really relevant over here, unlike america where everyone wants to be on death row.

I go to the stabbing range (the pub) every other weekend mate. Come ahead.
Now you are being silly.
Anyone can fire at a still target... you try going pigeon or crow shooting... takes more skill
I duck hunt and skeet shoot regularly. Also practice shooting in different tactical response situations. It is surprisingly fun.

We also dont crap in the woods and enjoy many amenities that have become common place. Take your commie/hippy nonsense to CE&P.

IDK I think he is fucking hilarious. When I think of the common Englishmen I think of David Gilmour; reserved, humble, and learned.

r.

Reserved humble and learned? Like 60 million Stephen Fry clones running around, right?

"Good day to you kind sir. Would you like to partake in tea and crumpets?"

What makes you think Billy Bob isn't absolutely raging about the fact that all his rights are being erroded, as well as wanting to keep his right to bear arms?

Pretty sure he's not. Pretty sure I saw a quote from him about how we've (the Americans) just about managed to keep our (communist) government (Obama) in check.

I LOL'd.

Your passive culture has let your government run a muck. Though America has let their government go over the top in recent years I am proud of how we have held firm.

some of them are, i visited a few of the relevant forums, survivalist and ar15.com, to read the great megathreads on bizarre shit they had seen in the woods. some of the members were and a lot of the stories involved all manner of disgruntled, gun toting nutjobs. lone crazies in full camo gear with cached weapons in booby trapped locations, kkk type anti government groups hiding in the forests preparing for the end times, gold prospectors with a dangerously warped view of what rights their plot confers upon them alongside the rabid paranoia. and these were agreed on archetypes, i.e not nearly as rare as one may imagine

anyone with some time to kill should google and search them out. amazing reads

We all are Stephen Fry compared to anyone from Tennessee.
Pip pip cheerio
the irony being it was our passive, innocent culture's violent subjugation that directly resulted in his beloved right to mechanically extend the penis
How is that ironic it was just the history? Besides I was talking about your culture in the modern day. Your culture is undeniably passive why be offended and not just own it. You guys enjoy being boring and there is something to be said about that IE you pwn bureaucracy, champion the mundane, and have pioneered dry humor.

Well I was speaking to the issue of gun control. After the Connecticut elementary school shooting the gun bill they tried to pass couldnt get a single part of the 30+ measures passed. Even the extended background checks which I and most other supported couldnt get passed.

re the quote. Actually managing to hold the right to bear arms IS a pretty huge achievement imo. Ok, it may have been used as a pacifier, and Billy Bob may just be a little bit stupid (due to tunnel vision), but I'm pretty sure he wont be in the least bit happy about all the rights that have been snuffed out of his constitution.

'cept for gay rights. he might just be a little bit annoyed about the developments on that score.

I think I know who you're talking about - a chapter in the first louis theroux book springs to mind. A quite different case were the black panthers of course. And then you got counter culture figures like Hunter S Thompson, though he apparently recognised that he had a gun problem.

oh theres loads of em. read one story with a bloke who'd gone camping with his sexy missus and left her sleeping in his expensive modern car while he went and had a bong with a couple untidy, slightly odd folks who appeared to live off the land deep in the forests. halfway through a truck came bounding down the dirt, full of repulsive, filthy, gun waving apparent inbreds who the two guys identified as his cousin. said it was like a scene from madmax and claimed he felt an incredible pang of terror in his gut and KNEW somehow that if he didnt get away that second before they pulled up, something very bad was going to happen to him and his unsuspecting wife. all the women and children were apparently filthy and dressed in tattered clothes, he had an expensive truck with a pretty wife sleeping in it. he got away, just, though was chased. there's pages of this kinda stuff

having said all that, i actually kindve agree with marmalade. after reading thousands of posts by these people (these were 100+ page threads) i started to understand their point of view more. the vast majority are extremely sensible with it, but the fact is the concept of baring arms is entrenched in their culture and enshrined in law. it is their (imagined or not) failsafe against a tyrannical government. but the most important factor is quite simply that they have big game roaming around that can and do attack and kill people in certain parts, plenty of stories on there about getting the feeling youre being watched and have something follow you out, moving when and stopping when you do. even for ones who don't actually find the tracks, the consensus is that this is undoubtedly the signs you are being stalked by a big cat, usually a mountain lion - certified man eaters. you can understand someone wanting to be armed after such an experience

Lol the threat of big game is no reason to own guns. The absolute only reason to own guns is to uphold our constitution and keep our government in check. At the very least firearms are a symbol that we are not yet a defeated people. Mt lions have killed like nine people in the last 50 years. Growing up in Georgia gators did not even worry me enough to carry a gun. The only thing I carry a handgun for when bow hunting is for wild boars those things are a menace imo

^I just wrote that myself but deleted it in fear of being wrong. The mods who can read deleted msgs know this is true.
