Where is Brimz?/Dreamcast Appreciation Station

Heh Psygnosis. I actually have a photo of a cheque for £500 in my name from them. Was some Sony game dev award I won years ago, but Sony were still using their account it would seem :p

I'm pretty sure I remember you mentioning that before, ages ago. have a brief memory. What psygnosis games did you work on? I was a big fan of the wipeout serious...

I didn't! This was long enough ago that I was still at uni, but not so long ago that Psygnosis were still making games. About 2005 I think :)

Dreamcast had options for 50 or 60hz or something.

It had a 28k fucking modem ffs, it was the first console to go online.

I never understood how the PS2 beat it.

Those Dreamcast controllers were pretty gash to be fair. Certainly in comparison to the Playstation Dual Shock one.

The modem was all but pointless. I think I got a picture of some tits on the telly once. After about half an hour. Don't get me wrong, I still loved my Dreamcast but I'm pretty sure I ended up resenting the fucker when everyone else was rocking a PS2.

I loved MSR, sadly I got one of the first released discs, that let you upgrade your cars too quickly, before you should have been able to, so every race was a piece of piss as i had a much more powerful car than the AI opponents. Again, I think that game was way ahead of its time...the timezones were all correct in US/UK/Japan, so if you were playing at 10pm the UK courses would be dark, but the Japanese courses in daylight etc....

And very well mapped.

And nice shine on the paintwork.

MSR was boring as fuck tbh. Couldn't get into it at all, huge disappointment.

Shoot me if you want for bringing the thread back on TOPIC

but im sure brimz was just changing the thing on his facebook cos of some avatar type bet after the Bristol Derby

Much like the one im gonna win with Alasdair here
Raiders>Patriots

Yeah I had Turok II for the gameboy. Loved it, really good game. Especially when you had infinite lives/ammo cheats on %)

Fuck knows man. I reckon it would look bogging on a HD telly. We hooked it up to an old CRT & fired it in the back of their living room. I don't think we could even have set it up on the proper telly if we'd wanted to, it just had an RF type aerial connection.

Am I right in thinking the Dreamcast can fire out HD graphics? Or was that just a mad lie cutting about at the time?

MM is right here. The dreamcast was the first console that could be displayed in 60hz, if the TV supported it. Previous PAL consoles would display in 50hz. HD wasn't around in those days.

MSR remains my favourite racing game. I played that fucker to death.

MSR was a revolutionary racing game, with it's in car radio systems, 24 hour weather system clock and amazingly accurate graphical representation of real cities.

It introduced new depths to gameplay, where you had to "drift" round corners to gain points as well as racing.

I always found this feature stupid though. You'd end up needlessly skidding round every corner just to finish the race with a respectable score. I found this really stupid because in real racing you only skid when you have to, for the sake of your tyres.

On the whole I agree with Albion; just couldn't get into it. It was a treat for the eyes; but I had no love for the game.

Did Turok not eventually become Far Cry? Or have I made that up as well?

Nah you're thinking of X-isle, which was the tech demo the Yerlis made (based on an island and including a t-rex, so quite Turok-like) which eventually became the Cryengine, which is what Far Cry (but not its sequels, they're made by Ubisoft I think), Crysis and the excellent forthcoming Ryse are made with. :)
