Boston cops closing in on molly source

Boston cops are tracing the drugs connected to a trio of overdoses at the House of Blues — including the death of a 19-year-old New Hampshire student — and could slap charges on dealers who sold “molly” or other dangerous narcotics to the concert-goers, officials said.

“There very well could be criminal charges in this case,” Boston police Superintendent William Evans said today at Boston City Hall. “Whoever was responsible for getting these girls the drugs, could face criminal charges.”
Evans’ comments came at the end of a hearing where House of Blues employees testified about the fatal overdose of 19-year-old Brittany Flannigan of Derry, N.H., and the non-fatal ODs of two other fans at the Lansdowne Street club on Aug. 28. The carnage began around 11 p.m. when a 19-year-old woman fell on the packed, darkened dance floor during a performance by German DJ Zedd.

The woman was brought to a stairwell where employees found her pupils dilated. The woman was unresponsive and was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in an ambulance. She survived but was found to have two small pills in her pocket and a packet of an unknown white powder in her bra.

About 45 minutes later, staff was called to a stairwell for a report of a woman “convulsing.” Security found Flannigan on the floor in convulsions, with her panicked older sister by her side. The teen, who was due to start her sophomore year at Plymouth State University this week, was also rushed to Beth Israel where she was pronounced dead.
Minutes later, a third person — a 23-year-old man — also OD’d and was taken to the hospital after staffers found him walking with a gash on the back of his head.
Evans said police are analyzing the powder and reviewing toxicology reports from the overdoses.

“We know where the drugs came from,” he said, adding that the department’s drug unit has a “very active” investigation ongoing.
City licensing officials, meanwhile, grilled staffers and attorneys for the club about their policies. The club will be sending a letter to the board outlining steps it will take to prevent future tragedies while managers and staff will be meeting with licensing and public health officials next week, along with other club owners, as part of a club drug crackdown.

House of Blues attorney Dennis Quilty expressed condolences to the Flannigan family and said the club is doing “everything in its power” to tackle the designer drug problem.
“It’s an epidemic unfortunately,” Quilty said. “But we are doing the best we can. We’re being as vigilant as can be.”

Heightened security at Boston concert after 'Molly' overdoses

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Organizers of a popular outdoor music festival in Boston made some security changes for the two-day event after several recent drug overdoses.

Attendees at "Boston Calling" were asked to bring clear plastic bags in lieu of backpacks following reported overdoses and subsequent arrests related to the club drug "Molly." The Boston Public Health Commission also handed out flyers about the dangers of drugs and concert goers entered and exited through one gate where they had to clear a security checkpoint.

The increase in security comes after police in Quincy announced this week they arrested eight people and were seeking three additional complaints in connection to the alleged distribution of drugs at the Ocean Club in Marina Bay. Investigators say emergency crews responded to 12 overdoses at the club this summer, most associated with Molly, which is a pure form of an ingredient found in Ecstasy.

Last week, one teenager died and two others were hospitalized from apparent overdoses at the House of Blues in Boston. Investigators believe a University of New Hampshire student, Olivia Rotondo, of Providence, R.I., died after overdosing on "Molly" while attending the Electric Zoo music festival in New York City last weekend.

The surge in overdoses prompted officials to cancel several events in the region, including a Sept. 20 event at the Ocean Club and a Barstool Blackout Tour concert scheduled for Sept. 28 in Manchester, N.H.

Boston Calling organizers began their two-day concert, featuring big names such as Vampire Weekend and Kendrick Lamar, as scheduled Saturday. They expected nearly 15,000 to attend the music festival.

... to MDPV to Mephedrone to 5/6 APB to 5-MAPB!

One thing is certain, MDMA itself is quite capabale of causing fatality if used in high doses by inexperienced users excercising heavilly in a hot enviroment. I know it's not nice to hear but very rarely, MDMA can even cause death outside of dangerous enviroments & in normal or even light doses. It sadly, can happen.

All the drugs that mimic the effects of MDMA do just that, they MIMIC the effects of MDMA & that means some of the side effects too. Some of these drugs might come with a dangerous therapuetic index, such as PMA, meaning that the dose that has an effect is not so much lower than a deadly dose. Others might be much more likely to increase temperature, such as with 6-apb, or might encourage repeated & hence more dangerous dosing, such as with mephedrone.

Either way, they can all bring about the same sort of multi-organ failure typical in almost all MDMA or MDMA-like drugs fatalities.

I hate doing this, but what is the difference between someone who prefers a recreational drug such as ecstacy, to someone who takes a drug named heroin.

I don't want to argue, but I find it difficult to imagine that on a website which values harm reduction, distinctions like "my drug of choice is good, but your drug of choise is bad, mmkay"?

MDMA, if used every day, will - like it or not - fuck you up. Heroin, or morphine, or any opiate can be taken daily, with no detremental side effects. Ok, maybe constipation, but that is easily relieve with a high fibre diet and simply not dosing straight before bed, or before you have had your daily shit.

I mean no disrespect, and we all have our personal drugs of choice. But if you want to win a war, the people need to be united, not divided. Personal circumstances "Oh, but my brother was fine until he touched that nasty heroin, now he is bad, mmmkay." Ok, imagine if we could change the drug laws for the better all over the world. Heroin will not kill you unless you take a dose that is much larger than usual, or combine it with other CNS depressants.

Opiates do not desreve the negative stigma that they have in the mainstream. They certainly do not deserve it from posters on bluelight who prefer uppers.

I don't care what drug it is, unknown composition and potency are the two biggest problems both of which would cease to be a problem if prohibition were ended. I do not take MDMA (anymore) or opiates but I still want the supply of both to be safe. Both are fairly safe when not cut with crap and people know dosage. No one has any of these problems with booze because it is regulated, and if it were banned you would be getting moonshine of unknown potency that could make you go blind if manufactured wrong. All drugs should be on equal playing field with alcohol and it is prohibition making them unsafe.
