I really think the authoritarian route isn't the way to go, and it's a protectionist approach that has much further implications. I genuinely think posters need to learn to adapt to the environment here, to preserve what we have.

i think that's an honourable ideal but what do you do when people make it clear they're unwilling to adapt and they feel that well-established rules somehow shouldn't apply to them? when tolerating the behavior of one negatively impacts the forum and the experience of many others?

But that's not to say there aren't exceptions that shouldnt be considered, and that apealing for compassion in certain situations is a way of doing that (rather than enforcing it)

how would you decide who should be an exception and who should not? is it defensible to say "that guy gets to come back but you don't" when the reasons are arbitrary (and albeit well-intentioned).

i am an idealist but i don't believe, nor expect, that we somehow should all just get along. differences of opinion are not only to be expected, they are to be embraced and celebrated. but when somebody can't respect a difference of opinion and responds with inflammatory insults which derail the thread and disrupt the forum, sometimes doing nothing just makes it worse. sometimes, when they won't let it lie, they need a break from bluelight and we need a break from them. that's why we have the public, transparent, incremental discipline system.

but even that doesn't satisfy some people. moderators on bluelight are volunteers and have a great deal of discretion in the manner in which they choose to moderate their forum. some are more laid back. some more focused on discipline. i'd saddened when i see a staff member insulted for trying to do what they think is best for the forum.

i'm also saddened when i'm called a cunt and a nazi when somebody complains to me and i simply explain to them the correct procedure for handling their complaint. i'm also called a hypocrite for the same but i just assume that means the poster doesn't really know what that word means

i think a lot of these issues would not explode the way they do if people checked their ego, but maybe that's just what you get from a bunch of drug-addled fools and an 'anonymous' internet connection...

and what MM said, and also, most people who call you a cunt over here are doing it in jest, but i totally understand the 'youre damned if you do, damned if you don't' position you're in. Never an easy one and always first in the firing line for abuse too.

I do remember one nazi cunt of a moderator who wouldn't tolerate any dissent from his opinion that K caused olneys lesions because he'd read that fucking Willard White article. Anyone who disagreed was banned because saying there was no evidence K caused olneys lesions was "contrary to harm reduction". When really it was just because you'd made him look a cunt.


I think the most annoying is when moderators take disagreements personally - when they disagree with you over some subject and instead of accepting it they spend the next 6 months trying to make it official and give you infarcs or bannings. That's pure cop behaviour.

But I think the mods are good - no complaints since the Willard White days.

Last month has been one of the toughest of my life, with withdrawing from sertaline that id been on for about 15 years probably the main problem, along with the stupid phenaz binges. 99% of the time im quite sane. You have no idea how frustrating it is to be given ridiculously wet behind the ears advice from obvious children that were trolling that thread. Statements like "lay off the benzos" well yes how helpful, but it shows the complete lack of any knowledge of the subject which becomes incredibly frustrating, and you wish you'd never posted the thread at all.

they were burnt to a cinder but cant waste good charcoal . I dont think iu have ever 'crossed paths' with BW but as Knock said he didnt find me difficult to communicate with, the reply was "I do". Thats how i read it and interpreted it and felt the need to defend myself all over again. Im gonna stop now doing that now though lol, i've said my genuine apologies, explained the reasons why, and if people still want to focus on the negative then theres nothing esle i can do or say. I'm not going to mince words someone did do my head in a bit today even though i decided to see it as a test rather than deliberately malicious( whether it was or not im not going to judge and start creating little paranoid theories tbh) I don't really know who it is was and wouldn't want to hazard a guess. Sorry if your post has been passed over. This thread has a bit of history though, it started off as MDB apologising and moved on to a discussion about forum etiquette, sort of. It's not really an "apology" megathread or anything; so when people come in here, many of them are reading it in the context of the discussion that's taken place, and perhaps your post doesn't seem to fit that discussion, it seems a bit more personal, so maybe it doesn't register properly. That's my excuse anyway :D

The only problem I have with you mydrugbuddy is you start threads that are solely about yourself and get easily butt hurt when the conversation slides off to include everyone else. Forums of these nature thrive on group participation. Your opening posts rarely include an open question or point of discussion, instead they turn into a cheap therapy session for yourself. That's fine if you are open to a range of opinions in response, not just the hand picked ones you agree with. Simply starting a thread does not give you ownership of it. Take it to your blog if that is what you want
