Mushrooms vs Truffles

Just wanted to pick people's brains a little bit. Some background info on myself, have experimented with MDxx, LSD, Mushrooms, Ketamine, Mephedrone, 6-APB, Cocaine. The usual 'mainstream' things if you will.

Now, my first experience with mushrooms was probably around 8 years ago, purchased over the counter in England, they were Mexican Shamanic or Mexican something or other (was a long time ago). First time I tried them it was great, usual mushroom experience. I then tried them about 6 or 7 times more and every time I spent the entire trip being sick constantly. One of these experiences was also over in Amsterdam with some mushrooms bought from the fridges in their head shops.

Of course in the end I conceded defeat and vowed never to try mushrooms again as they obviously have something in them which does not agree with me.

Fast forward to this past June, I was in Amsterdam, had been up all night following a Techno festival and at 9am a few of us decided to head out into town and have a wander around. We came across a shop that was selling Truffles and curiosity got the better of me, I purchased the strongest ones, ate 1/3 of the box first to 'test the water' so to speak then 20/30 mins later as I felt fine I ate the rest of the box. To cut a long story short, I had an amazing time with friends, tripping lots, laughing lots and again, everything you would expect from a mushroom/truffle experience.

What I wanted to know is, was there a reason why mushrooms used to always make me very sick whereas Truffles did not or do you think this was potentially just a bit of a one off and I got lucky?

The main psychedelic ingredient is definetly the same with mushrooms and truffles, being psilocybin.
I'm not a lawyer but it has to do with the truffles making their fruiting bodies underground, hence they are not mushrooms, hence not illegal.
It's a weird law, because they do sell growkits for mushrooms. So it's not that they want people to stop tripping, if you ask me.
They do want to advise against going out a whole night in the Dam and then going for some mushrooms. ;)

I have tripped several 100 times (on naturals and synthetics) and only threw up twice. Once with fresh mushrooms (my very first trip) and once with dried truffles ordered online.
How did you eat your mushrooms ? Since I puked on them, I always dry them, grind them to dust and ingest them with a glass of water. Makes it easier on the stomach. Haven't been sick since.

I don't think you need to look for an explanation. There's so many variables. What you ate, didn't eat, what you drank, didn't drink, overall well-being of body, mind, spirit, .. . All these things make it extremely difficult to pinpoint why you were sick during those mushrooms trips.

But they are fun, aren't they :)

Truffles psychoactive components are indeed psilocybin and psilocin, the drug laws there must be different and apply to the specific plant itself, and not the compounds it contains.

I'd say the truffles are just more manageable on the stomach (despite being greater in mass). I don't think there's much difference in all and I actually found eating the truffles horrific. It's like damp rotting wood.

As far as I know their law says that mushrooms containing psilocin/psilocybin are illegal, but doesn't say anything about truffles.
So it's a loop hole if you will.

The mushrooms I tried in the past I just ate them, they were quite large and there was usually 2 large ones and a smaller one in the box. The one time I tried actual mushrooms in Amsterdam I brewed them and strained them out so I was just drinking liquid and not the actual mushroom but the same thing happened.

This past June I again just ate them, I didn't find them too bad to eat to be honest.

Who knows then, just wondered if it was common for Truffles to cause less nausea than Mushrooms. Will probably be heading back to Amsterdam for Awakenings again next June so would be tempted. Will proceed with caution. And yes they are indeed lots of fun, was probably the best part of the entire weekend :-)

Never had any nausea with either mushrooms or truffles but I always dried and capsuled them so there was no taste and no big lumps of mushroom in my gut.

I have a horribly sensitive stomach, so mushrooms always make me puke no matter how I do them.
Occasionally when I make tea I get lucky but I almos like puking better cause when I don't nausea tends to last through the whole trip

I have never tried tuffles, but I was watching a show about them a while back where the interviewed the largest growers. I think they were saying something like psilocybin mushrooms were banned and the legal language was they took a list of the mushrooms that contained psilocybin and put them on the law. Tuffles was not on that list so this big grower switched over and started cranking out tuffles.

I might have a bit mixed up it has been a while since I watched it. The Rise of Psychedelic Truffles in Amsterdam-YouTube

edit- about 10:30 into the video they talk about the legalities and "banned" mushrooms

You're right flat-line. That loophole is still there in the Netherlands. In the UK they banned "everything that contains psilocybin".

Yeah the law specifically states something about mushrooms, which is just stupid (as per Dutch politics in general)

I wish I lived somewhere where I could walk to the store and buy psychedelic mushrooms
If you're in the EU there is an online store from the Netherlands that ships everywhere and claims 100% success to EU countries.
And you can pay by cash in the mail so even if the package is intercepted it would be too hard for them to prove you ordered it (depends how anal your country is, I never got in trouble for similar shit).

Or brilliant if they just wanted to appease the people crying out for a ban after that girl killed herself during a bad trip (that was the reason for the ban if I recall correctly).

You need a clean house too tho - it's no use saying "The mushrooms arn't mine" if they come in and search the house and find all your other drugs. And having a package addressed to you filled with a class A drug would certainly get any cop in the country a signed warrent to break your front door down.

Yeah it exists - but when the cops come bursting through your door and drag you kicking and screaming out of bed it's gonna be no use saying "The website sent it to me it's not my fault". The website owner will be kicking back smoking a doobie while you're life is wrecked.
