It seems like when I use Tramadol recreationally it works like an anti-depressant several days after use. I suffer from clinical depression. Has anyone heard about or experienced this? Or is it all in my head?
Their are snri anti-depressants, venlafaxine is an snri I believe, as is Duloxetine.
I don't think tramadol is advised for longterm (or short-term) anti-depressant use.
However, most doctors seem to be happy enough prescribing it for long term pain relief, so I would say that if you can keep it within prescribing limits ie.100mg every 6-8hrs and no-more then 400mg a day, then it shouldn't be any more dangerous then using them for pain relief.
if you notice any bad changes to your depression symptoms though then I would see your doctor at the first opportunity.
